Jim Frangione returns to narrate this paranormal romantic fantasy. Vasi Sidkorolyavolkva is a royal-blooded Lycan. Siv Bela is an ancient Carpathian. The two races have a tenuous truce, but a secret legacy means that Vasi carries the other half of Siv's soul, making the two opposites life mates. There is a romantic connection between Vasi and Siv--but significantly more battling than any actual romance. Frangione's inflection and speed remain steady throughout, but distinguishing various characters is difficult during dialogue. For Vasi specifically, Frangione's pitch change barely registers, but the character's dialogue becomes slightly protracted. Number 36 in Feehan's Dark series, this title can be picked up midseries as it provides backstory on the demons, vampires, mages, and the other fantastical races.
