Overview

"When the box was opened, there was only one living person to feed on." Legion's eyes grew crimson red with a chaotic glow, "It didn't even come close to quenching my thirst."

Deep within the coal mines of Melas, something sinister is just dying to get out!

In the heart-stopping sequel to the award-winning Darkened Hills, Jonathan and William must return to West Virginia to face possible criminal charges stemming from their last visit to the damned town of Melas, where both had narrowly escaped the clutches of a vampire seethe.

And as livestock start mysteriously getting murdered with all of their blood drained, worried farmers are searching for answers - leaving the local Sheriff and his deputy racing against time to learn the cause before a more violent crime is committed.

Meanwhile, a nearby mining accident traps a group of coal miners, forcing a perilous escape through the abandoned Runners Ridge mine.

As the trapped miners soon discover, the dead don't always stay dead and the horrors that are unleashed is just the beginning of the terror about to fall on the rural community nested within the Darkened Hollows!

horror-filled story that you are not going to want to put down!

Reviewed by Brenda C. for Readers Favorite

"Darkened Hollows" takes readers on a romp through a coal mine as well as the hills and hollows of WV. This book takes off right where "Darkened Hills" left off. There is plenty going on in the tiny town of Melas. Something is killing and draining the blood of the local livestock, and the local police can't figure it out. Meanwhile a local mining company has decided to reopen the Runner's Ridge mine, and when a group of miners get trapped they quickly learn that something evil is lurking in the mine shafts! It turns out that a bloodthirsty vampire had hired a man to dump his victims in the mine shaft. The fact is that the victims weren't dead, but instead they have been transformed, and they are thirsty for blood! Will the miners make it out alive? What evils are lurking in the tiny town of Melas, and can the local authorities figure it out before they become victims themselves?

I love a good vampire story and this series delivers in spades! The vampires in this book are dark evil beings that are scary bad! The plot moves along at break-neck speed, and I found myself riveted to this book to see where the author would take me. From the underground mines to an insane asylum action abounds and I couldn't help but fear if perhaps this time evil would triumph over good! As the story unfolds we learn what happens to some of the characters from the previous book but also meet several new characters as well. Mr.Vincent is a true wordsmith who has the ability to bring to life the books he writes, painting such vivid images that it is easy to imagine the scenes unfolding. Even though this book is the second in a series the author provides so much background information that this story can be read as a stand alone work, but I suggest reading the books in order because the series is just that good. I would caution that there is violence and sexual situations in this story, but if that doesn't bother you then you are in for an amazing, horror-filled story that you are not going to want to put down!

Review: “Darkened Hills” and “Darkened Hollows” is a vampire series written by Gary Lee Vincent with scenes reminiscent of both “Dracula” and “Salem’s Lot.” While there was good action and a semi-interesting plot, I was not overly impressed as I felt the book was more the authors own rendition of two greater horror classics.

The books weren’t bad but still lacked the quality I expected from this writer. I would still recommend them if you are looking for a decent horror read related to vampires. I gave both books a 3 on the Raven Rating Scale, I have to say were these books a movie… they would be a B rated horror from the 80’s at best.

Synopsis: A tale of gripping psychological horror!

When evil descends on a small West Virginia town, who will survive?

Jonathan did not start out his life to become a rambler, it just worked out that way. William was a troubled youth with something to hide. Both were from Melas, a small town tucked away in the West Virginia hills... a town where disappearances are happening more and more frequently.

After the suicide of a wanted serial killer, the townsfolk thought the nightmare was over. But when a centuries-old vampire is discovered they find out the hard way it's just getting started. Dark secrets can only stay hidden for so long and when the devil comes to collect, there will be hell to pay. Can Jonathan and William find a way to stop the vampire before it's too late? Find out in Darkened Hills!

Darkened Hills is a gothic vampire novel written in the spirit of Dracula with much more sinister characters and eroticism then the old Victorian classic.
