I LOVED the Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker. I expected to--as I absolutely fell in love with the first installment in Hieber's Strangely Beautiful series, The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker. What I did not expect is that I would enjoy the sequel even more! As I literally could not put the book down, I read it in one sitting, laughing, crying, and yes--even finding myself a little spooked. The story starts off immediately where the first leaves off, and the ride starts straight away. We are introduced to new characters and given more glimpses into the past of the established ones. The development of Percy and Alexi's relationship is both deeply touching and fulfilling, and oh so romantic. The charming cast of characters are well rounded and imperfect, giving everyone someone they can surely relate to, and the back drop of Victorian London is a character all in itself while Hieber's lyrical prose immerses you into the period. The use of actual legendary hauntings is fascinating and tantalizingly spooky, and I found my heart racing in trepidation more than once wondering how the Guard would possibly endeavor to save the day. The ending was bittersweet, as I found myself saddened that this episode was complete, longing for the next chapter in the series. In short, Darkly Luminous has everything I love: history, romance, fantasy, suspense, wonderful characters and a riveting story. An exquisitely written, beautiful tale indeed.

Although I'm not a fan of Victorian stories, I grabbed this book immediately after reading "The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker", which precedes this book. Once again, Hieber did not disappoint and delivered another piece of lovely prose, witty (wicked) conversation and surprising twists. Along with the delightful images evoked in my head while reading, what I really like about this tale is how Hieber takes it a step further than most "happily ever after" endings between the heroine and her hero. This book describes Percy's journey from a meek girl to woman, and how she earned her place as a respected peer. The love she and Alexi shared was wonderfully juxtaposed by the different relationships around them. There are different love stories on so many levels, and while I didn't want the story to end, the ending, poignant as it is, is perfect. Thank you and Bravo!

This is a must read! You won't be disappointed. This story continues the tale of Percy Parker and the Guard. You learn more about each character and how they battle the evil forces. There are some touching parts and also some parts that get your blood pumping in anticipation. I am looking forward to more stories by Leanna Renee Hieber.

Better than the first! This series is essential to any reader's library that are fans of supernatural, mystery, suspenseful thrillers, with tear jerking romance. 'The Darkly Luminous Fight for Persephone Parker' picks up right where 'The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker' left off. And with few answers, comes more questions with answers at a high cost. Percy, the embodiment of The Lady, is warned of betrayal that will come from one very close to her. Perhaps even a jealous member of her new family, The Guard, could be her betrayer. With the reunion of Alexi Rychman and Percy Parker and also with the realization that the dangers The Guard face dramatically shortens their lives, the other members are forced to face their hearts' desires. However with the confessions of love, come the complications of jealousy, current commitments, social and family exile, and even the barrier of life and death itself. Percy's family is a mystery, for she doesn't even know who they are or what kind of people they are either. All she knows is growing up in the convent, and the love of a ghost. With the comforting warmth of Alexi's Phoenix fire and the supporting and joyous friendship of the German girl Marianna, Percy may be able to face the mystery of her mother's letter and gravesite. However, she struggles to recognize or remember that she is the Lady/angel/goddess/Persephone, prior to becoming mortal. The threat of Darkness claiming her as his own is a battle that she cannot win with The Guard alone. Fortunately she is able to not only see ghosts, but she is can speak and hear them too. Ultimately Persephone's powerful and divine light will defeat Darkness and his minions, or she will spend her time in and with Darkness without hope, resulting in losing her Alexi forever.

This was an amazing book! A great second part to the first book the Stangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker. I'm so glad I stumbled across this series. I really enjoyed that the book started where the other left off, there wasn't any break inbetween like most series books have. Actually the book technically overlaps the time period of the first, the prologue was the last couple chapters from the first book just from a different viewpoint. All the charachters became more indepth. I loved the first book, but this one was so much better. Hieber had me wanting to be Percy, apart of the Guard, or at least to be in London in the late 1800s.
