Years ago he ended things between them to protect her... As leader of one of the fiercest werewolf packs in the south, Finn Stavros is in full battle mode 24/7. He has no choice--he's one of the few beings strong enough to fight the Akkadian demons, whose mysterious escape from hell threatens the entire world. With the battle turning bloodier by the second, Finn is ready for anything...until his vampire long lost love shows up on his doorstep in desperate need of his help, sending his heart into a tailspin. He agrees to help her, unaware that she carries a shocking secret that will turn his life upside down. This time, he's not letting her go... Vampire Lyra Marius curses the day she met Finn. The ruthless werewolf promised to love her forever, but he rejected her instead--before she could share her life altering news. Pregnant, kicked out of her coven, and cast aside by the love of her life, Lyra struggled to raise their rare shifter-vampire daughter Vega alone among humans. When the 16-year-old is kidnapped and used to fulfill a frightening prophecy, Lyra swallows her pride and turns to Finn for help. But how long can she fight her feelings for him and keep him from guessing the truth about who Vega really is? As they race against the clock to save their daughter, they must defeat the lethal threat imposed by demons infiltrating the human world and a hell gate that could not only reveal their existence to mankind, but destroy the world in the process.

Katie Reus' Darkness Awakened is a fast-paced, suspenseful, and sexy paranormal romance A friend introduced me to Katie Reus' books earlier this year and I quickly worked my way through her romantic suspense series (Red Stone Security, Deadly Ops, The Serafina: Sin City) as well as her paranormal romance one (Moon Shifter). I became hooked on her books, her writing style, and her characters - quickly reading through all the series with my only complaint being that I wanted "more." So, I was delighted to receive a review copy of her newest book, Darkness Awakened, the first in her new Darkness series. As soon as it was sent to my Kindle, I quickly sat down, putting the quiet vibe out, and began to enter into Reus' newest shifter community. Once again, Reus hit all the right notes with her two main characters, the Biloxi werewolf Alpha Finn Stavros and vampire princess Lyra Marius. The tension between the two of them is immediately apparent, as is the foreshadowing of their battles with demons seeking an entry into this world. Soon we find out that Lyra is there to seek help finding her daughter who's been kidnapped, apparently because of an ancient prophecy that foretold her blood would help open a gate to hell. As Lyra and Finn race around to try to find her, their 17-year-old passion begins to spark up as the embers for both of them were never extinguished. I really liked both of the lead characters in this novel. Finn is definitely a strong, take-charge alpha - with a sensitive side for Lyra. While Lyra is no one's fool. One scene where she confronts a challenger in the pack house makes that quite clear. The secondary characters are also fascinating and I can't wait to see more about them, including the newest shifter to join their community. (I can't say who it is as that would be a spoiler, sorry.) I'm looking forward to the next installment in this series and highly recommend that you add it to your e-library. Reus is an author whose books are consistently addictive page turners. The action is pretty much non-stop, so I'd suggest you carve out some time yourself to read this. Definitely five stars for Reus' newest series entry. I received and eARC from the publisher through NetGalley for use in this review.

Vampires, Demons, werewolves...dragons?? Oh My! This was a great read and perfect for getting me out of my 11 month reading slump! Katie Reus has a created a spin on her vampire/werewolve stories and I love it. I was totally engaged in the story and loved both main characters. I am not a big fan of the whole "hide the baby/child" story but this one worked for me. I am very excited to see where this series will go. I am already intrigued with the next story... surely to be about a dragon (which happens to be my favorite paranormal character).

Its hard to find great reads in the digital world these days but when you do find a great read it makes it that much better! The story building was fantastic. Lyra and Finn's romance felt real. Nothing felt rushed or forced. It all flowed very well into an amazing story. I hope the next book is about Dash. I'm very curious about his story!

I devoured this story! Not usually my cup of tea, I decided to dive into this supernatural romance after reading favorable reviews on Goodreads. And frankly, I'm really glad I tried it! I discovered the world of Katie Reus, populated by vampires, werewolves but also hybrids, all in a fun, stressful and very rhythmic tale. I've grabbed this book and was not able to put it down before finishing it! A one day sexy and intense read... So, I have not had time to get bored as the quest to find the kidnapped daughter of Lyra is conducted by the pack. There were surprise attacks, fighting scenes, explosion, blood and all the dangerous events which make the action realistic. It is not a fairy tale and it's damned right good like that! I liked the love story and the difficulties encountered by the two different races to successfully impose their feelings. It is very contemporary.  The romance is well dosed with hot scenes, sex and fighting scenes  not to be too mushy or insipid. Because the world is on the brink of letting monsters take over...so threatening stituations are to be expected! I look forward to read more because Drake. He made ¿¿me smile with his strange behavior with Victoria. And what will happen with Gabriel..I'm full of curiosity! Great and beautiful surprise.  Lucie newbooksonmyselves.blogspot.fr

Vampires, Demons, and Shifters, OH MY! I really enjoyed this short, paranormal romance story! A mother searching for her kidnapped daughter with nowhere else to turn to for help but the man who shattered her heart seventeen years earlier.  I loved the concept of reunited love! A love so strong that it withstood time, distance, and secrets. The chemistry between Finn and Lyra is explosive. I absolutely loved watching the couple fight their fears in order to claim their happily ever after this time around. This is 161 pages of excitement, romance, action, danger, betrayal, secrets, mystery, and love, paranormal style. The plot is meticulously orchestrated and the characters are brilliantly written; I found myself wanting to know more about both! The story captured my attention from start to finish.  I am greatly anticipating the next book in the series! Could it possibly be Drake and Victoria? Now there’s a shifter I can get down with! He is smokin’ HOT…literally! This is a great read for anyone who enjoys an action-packed love story. ***I received an ebook copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

The story begins with seeing Finn fighting some bad demons, and we see a certain bond he has with one of his closest friends and protector. We see the fun bantering and quick-witted humor between these two and the level of friendship they have. Then when Lyra enters Finn’s life again, he has no clue that he has a 17-year-old daughter. He doesn’t suspect a thing, but Lyra gets a bit devious and changes the age of her daughter so he doesn’t suspect. Now this is a “secret baby” themed trope, but the circumstances makes it seem endearing and you get captivated instantly. What I enjoyed was seeing how these ex lovers were able to connect almost instantly, even after all the time that has passed for them. The supporting characters were so fun, and a plus we get on possessive dragon shifter that comes into the mix (his book is next…SO THRILLED because he sure was delicious) We see some engaging members of Finn’s pack, and boy did Lyra stand her ground with them and win their loyalty, which is pretty fantastic considering that vampires and shifters are mortal enemies. Toward the last half of the book, we get an insight into Vega and what she is dealing with. We see how insane Lyra’s brother really is, crazed with power and being the leader of the clan, and how he promotes fear to get his people to do what he wants them to do. Vega is just like her parents though, strong and stands on her own. What we see happen in this story especially toward the latter half of the story, was a tear jerker, just broke me up inside, seeing Finn and Lyra be honest with each other, and finding their daughter together. So many great moments in this story that made it an astounding read for me (despite its shorter length, only 200 pages), but it didn’t feel that short. The plot is well-balanced, the characters written in a way where we see their strengths and weakness and how they face opposition, the romance short and sweet, but definitely strong in emotion and engaging till the end. What I most enjoyed was how the style of this author’s writing captivated me from the beginning, she draws you into the story in such a way that you can’t put it down, she creates a scene at the beginning which is exciting and full of action and then pumps you with emotion that you have to keep reading more, a intense page turner.

The book captures your attention from the start. The romance between the characters while it has issues they make it work to a clean rekindling. It's refreshing when a healing relationship is not filled with recriminations. Loved the action and secondary characters.

This supernatural romance was written the way all romances should be. Finn and Lyra had an undying love for each other. There was no love triangle to muck it up, just a trememdous passion between them. Not for under 18. Phyl p

3.25* I enjoyed this book. I loved Finn. He's a wolf shifter and is such a alpha male. *sigh* Lyra is a royal vampire that's been kicked out of her Coven. Lyra's daughter a blood born vampire has been kidnapped and Lyra has come to Finn for help. Ms. Reus has done a good job with world building and setting up future books. There are several secondary characters that I'm looking forward to reading about.

When I started to read this book I was intrigue by how the past lovers were brought back together in a form of fate. The passion they held was so intense it felt as it was seeping through the book. I love how the author comebine secrets with the past and the suspense it brought to the table. So if you want to read a book that have a little twist in it then this the one for you.

Loved this book. If you like vamps and shifters this book is a must read. Terrific story line. I don't believe in spoilers so all I will say is that a shifter was introduced that I haven't seen in any other book before. I'm very interested to see how his story line plays out and get more information about his history. Looking forward to the next book in the series!!!
