Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Systeme - Allgemeines und Vergleiche, Note: 1,7, Helmut-Schmidt-Universität - Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Betrachtung des amerikanischen Parteiensystem unter Berücksichtung der historischen Perspektive zeigt auf, dass die Herausbildung eines zweipoligen Parteiensystems in den USA tiefgreifende historische und systemische Ursachen hat, die weit über den Faktor eines Mehrheitswahlrechts hinausgehen. Das amerikanische Parteiensystem, dessen Ausgangspunkt in den Konflikten zwischen Föderalisten und Anti-Föderalisten im Umfeld des Verfassungsgebungsprozesses zu finden ist, hat über mehr als 2 Jahrhunderte thematisch und strukturell immer auf gesellschaftliche Konfliktlinien (Cleavages) reagiert und sich entsprechend anpassen müssen.
Die amerikanischen Parteien sind durch ihre historische Entwicklung und ihre organisatorische Struktur nicht mit denen westeuropäischer parlamentarischer Systeme vergleichbar. Ihnen kommt im Präsidialsystem der Vereinigten Staaten in erster Linie eine elektorale Funktion zu. Sie richten ihre gesamte Tätigkeit auf anstehende Wahlkämpfe aus und versuchen Kandidaten unter dem Label ihrer Partei im Wahlkampf zu unterstützen. Zur Umsetzung dieser Funktion kommen sie zwischen den Wahlkämpfen mit einem Mindestmaß an organisatorischer Struktur aus.
Für die Wahrnehmung von Interessenartikulations- und -aggregationsaufgaben sind im politischen Prozess der USA, der an pluralistischen Grundsätze orientiert ist, in erster Linie Interessenverbände und Single-Iussue-Groups und nicht die Parteien zuständig.
Parteibindungen von Bürgern und Politikern sind in den USA traditionell schwach ausgeprägt. Dieser Umstand erschwert eine Bewertung der jüngsten Entwicklungen des amerikanischen Parteiensystems hinsichtlich der Existenz einer Realignment- oder Dealignment-Phase.
