Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cathi I. White
Jenny loved horses and enjoyed riding them. She wanted to learn how to barrel race. In order to do so, she had to get a horse that could learn how to race but she also needed to be trained to ride. Jenny was excited when her father gave her a Quarter Horse named Dash. At first, Jenny practiced with bales of hay, but things did not go well because Jenny went around the bales the wrong way. She and Dash also hit a few. If she was to win a race she had to be perfect and make no mistakes. She practiced daily with a trainer to show her how to race. Before long, her dad got her barrels to race around. She still made mistakes but was getting better. Finally, she learned how to go around the barrels correctly and without hitting them. She was ready for race day! Children will be excited to follow the story of Jenny and Dash and see what happens at the barrel race. This easy to read chapter book has beautiful illustrations that add to the story. This fun book is also part of the "Breyer Stablemates" series where readers can learn about other adventures of different horses. There is also information about Quarter Horses and barrel racing at the end of the book and a website for the series. This series would be a great addition to any classroom library.
