A very detail-oriented account of Dashiell Hammett's life focusing on his on-going health problems and the issues he had to face resulting from his association with communism. The author benefited from the insight she received from Hammett's wife, two daughters and longtime friend and lover, Lillian Hellman. This is a very thorough exploration of Hammett's life and will be appreciated by those readers who are very familiar with his novels and short stories as well as the films which followed. Was this review helpful?
