Overview

We create more data in a day then we did from the dawn of man through 2003 and approximately 90% of all the world's data has been created in the past 2 years. What does this mean to you? In Data Science Secrets we explore this very question and reveal the data secrets your competitors don't want you to know.

Our world is transforming as the data deluge knocks us out of our old ways and into the data driven reality. Some companies are winning by taking advantages of the opportunities in this evolving world while others are falling behind. Pioneers like Amazon, Target, and Google are blazing a trail that we can follow, and I help you do just that.

Data Science promises to give us a world driven by information and solid data, bringing far greater productivity, increased profits, and lower costs; and in Data Science Secrets we explore those winning strategies and techniques and the tools behind them.

Want to learn how companies like Amazon, Target, and IBM use data to gain competitive advantages? Or how Obama used Big Data tools to better utilize his resources? Data Science Secrets is written for the non-or-only-slightly-technical business person in mind--but in a way that gives you enough meat behind the ideas so that you have a road map that tells you how to get where you want to go. It uses real-world examples and case studies to illustrates the concepts and explore the technology that makes them happen.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon - Chris Crosby
With everyone talking about Big Data and Data Science, its tough to know whom to listen to and how to make sense of it all. This book cuts through the noise and presents the reader with a roadmap for success. Whether you've been in this space for a while or are just coming up to speed, Data Science Secrets is a must read.
Amazon - Charles Mansfield
To my great pleasure, this book helped me discover ways to put data to use. It's really the book I've been looking for, for: a simple to understand introduction to everything data from a business perspective. There are other books out there about data, but they tend to either spent all their time in the theory or get lost in the specifics. This is the only book I've found that strikes a balance between the two. So if you're looking for application alongside theoretical understanding, this is

Data science is one of the hottest new technologies in business, and something I've tried to get to grips with for some time as part of my job. However, most tomes I've found about this field are written for people with technical skills and knowledge. I am not one of those people. Thankfully, I came across this book, which is written in a style more accessible for business people like myself.
A lot of facts and information is presented here in a surprisingly accessible and interesting matter. I actually found the prose enjoyable and illuminating in itself, and the author has found a way to make this subject interesting and fascinating to the layperson. I'd recommend to anybody, who, like me, has to get to grips with data science, and also anybody curious about the history of this new trend in business.
