Editorial Reviews

Booknews
Recorded history of gynecology and obstetrics begins in 1500 BC when the Indian Ayurveda mentions obstetric instruments, progresses through 1510 AD when Leonardo accurately depicted the fetus in utero and also the uterus with its blood supply, to 1999 when Patrick Brennan of University College Dublin provided evidence that ultrasound scans of the fetus may stop cells dividing or cause some cells to commit suicide. Occasional b&w photos and drawings punctuate this chronology (exact dates not included) of 10- to 35-word descriptions, often technical, of each noteworthy occurrence. Lacks index and bibliography.
