    Highly Recommend

Joan Slonczewski is an excellent writer. The first book by her I read was A Door into Ocean (unfortunately not available in e-book), which takes place on the ocean planet Shora and left me wanting more. Daughter of Elysium takes place years later on the same planet. Although it would be nice to read A Door into Ocean first, Daughter of Elysium is a stand-alone novel. Slonxzewski's characters and plots are rich and a joy to read. Her books tend to be concerned with ecology, but are not didactic.
