This was quite a story. It was a very intense, detailed, quite gruesome tale based on some history from New Mexico. It was completely different from her regular novels/love stories. I like novels based on history. I just did not realize that was what I was getting into when I started reading this book so it was a bit of a surprise. If you are looking for a light read, this is not it. But it was a pretty good book.
Loved it. I love all her books, and this was no exception. Knowing how well Carla Kelly researches her books just made it more amazing. It was intense with fairly graphic descriptions of unspeakable violence, but it was necessary to convey the horror our heroine faced - as well as her undying courage. The hero is real - he has flaws and is true to his time period. But in the end love conquers all. It's why I read romance.
