Just finished re-reading this AMAZING book from Alicia (I've been leaving reviews since the first read through)re-reading in honor of 'Tempest's Fury' book 4's release. I enjoyed this read through just as much as I did when I first read this book. 'Daughter of the Read Dawn' is book 1 in "The Lost Kingdom of Fallada" series, I would suggest you start with the prequel 'Beyond the Iron Gates' (I recently read this) as you get more of an idea about the history we learn in this book. Selena is a 17 year old girl wanting to escape the little town she grew up in with her grandma. Feeling that she doesn't belong all her life, knowing she is different & having to keep that secret even from her grandma, Selena doesn't know just how different she actually is.... That is until a stranger arrives & her world is turned up side down.... Alicia has weaved a truly compelling story, it griped me from the very start of the book until the end. I was about 90% through the book wondering how it was going to end, did Alicia end it in a massive cliffhanger?? This book, although part of a series, finished without a cliffhanger, we find out what happens for Selena at the end, but are given an idea in the Epilogue as to what book 2 is about. I CAN NOT wait to read book 2, I need to find out what happens next in "The Lost Kingdom of Fallada"!

I got this book a few months ago and read it.  I decided that it definitely needed a review on Goodreads. Daughter of the Red Dawn is the first book in the The Lost Kingdom of Fallada series.  This series has all the magical characters that are needed to make this fantasy series complete. Selena never felt like she belonged in the Texas town that she was raised in.  Selena was counting down the days when she graduated high school and can leave to do something with her life. The only solace that she finds is running.  One day she was running and Titus came into her life.  She tries to tell him to get lost, but he still comes around... What Selena doesn't know is that not only does she feel out of place in the small town she lives in, she doesn't even belong in the human world.  In the Kingdom of Fallada there is a battle raging around her and 6 other lost princesses.  Titus has been sent by the evil Queen Eranna to bring her back to her. Titus decides to tell Selena the truth about what is going on.  Selena is not believing one word that Titus is telling her but runs home to her grandmother to find out what is going on. That same night Titus decides that he no longer wants to serve Eranna and two men from the "good side" plus Titus whisk Selena out of her house and brings her to Fallada. There is so much for Selena to take in.  She is delivered to Fallada and told what is going on.  She decides that she is going to work with the good side. This is an action packed book filled with Selena being reunited with her true family and love. Alicia Michaels also brings in two characters that I would have never thought to be in a fantasy book.  Those two are amazing secondary characters. Daughter of the Red Dawn is must read YA fantasy!  I would give it more then 5 stars if I could.

Very well written and it did not have the "cliff hanger" that so many writers seem prone to use these days. It was great to enjoy a complete story and I am looking forward to delving into book 2 of this series.

I bought this book from amazon!! Daughter of the Red Dawn by Alicia Michaels~~ This is an amazingly beautiful read! I love how descriptive the author gets about the characters and the scenes!! I feel like I'm standing there beside Selena and Titus! I can connect with the characters very easily and who doesn't love hotness in himself, Titus!! Tall dark and sinewy with piercing blue eyes has my heart a flutter. This book is a very fast read that leaves you craving for more. I can't wait to see what else this author has in store for the journey of the other girls and for Selena and Titus!! Beautifully written!! The book has adventure, romance, and action that enchants the reader and has them spellbound. Highly recommended read. Selena gets some earth shattering news on the way home when she comes across a tall dark and mysterious guy that makes her want to run and stay at the same time. She feels a connection to him. When a blow close to home happens, she has to band with some unseemly characters on an epic journey. Selena will have to confront the future and the past and try to live up to the expectations of many many people. Can she do it and save the ones she loves? I really don't want to say too much more or I would give the story away.

First of all, let me say I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I must say I was spellbound by the book, and unable to put it down. The transition from the "ordinary world" to Fallada was akin to Dorothy's journey to Oz, and enough to keep you turning pages. I've always been a fan of the Brother's Grimm, so their presence in this story drew me further and further into the plot.  Selena's character goes through many internal conflicts, but she is able to focus on the task she has been chosen for, and follow her destiny, all while falling in love.  I am waiting on pins and needles for the next book in this series to come out!!

When reading the excerpt of this story it reminded me of a fairy tale. Even though I'm not into the talk of war and weapons and such. But this story delivered much more then that. All kinds of creatures made there way into the story. Unusual made up creatures. Started as a great story. Ended as a great story. Great imagination by the author. Starts with a normal seventeen year-old teen girl, Selena McKinley. She never felt she fit in her life. Ran at enormous fast speed. A clue to not fitting in. So one day, out the edge of the forest, this boy starts to walk towards her. She feels something strange about him. Running for her life she makes it to where her and her grandmom lived. Something comes crashing at the door. At that moment her life would never be the same. Ends with a Happily-Ever-After.

I read Daughter of the Red Dawn by Alicia Michaels. I recommend this book. I loved the beginning, middle and end! It begins with a 17 year old girl, Selena, living in Texas with her grandmother. She has an extraordinary power. Also introduced are the Grimm brothers who are the only humans still allowed into Fallada. This is a realm that Fae, Werewolves, Centaurs, Elves and more creatures humans do not think exist live. This realm is beautiful and did live in harmony with Earth at one time. There are queens and kings there and now one queen, Eranna, became evil and wants to take over all of Fallada. She gathered all seven of Fallada's princesses and casted them into the human world so they would not inherit their thrones. The Grimm brothers are sent to find the princesses and bring them back and fulfill a prophecy of the Red Dawn. Eranna sends Titus to kill Selena because she is one of the lost princesses, but he can't... Titus and Selena are drawn together. There is so much beautiful description in this book that it comes alive. This new world that is created is wonderful! This is a great read!

Daughter of the Red Dawn begins by telling the reader about Fallada - a land of magical creatures that is cut off from mankind by a magical wall. The reader also learns that the seven princesses of Fallada were kidnapped and sent to the world of man. Now the Brothers Grimm, are searching for them in hopes of saving Fallada from the evil queen. Selena is a seventeen year old living in Texas who just doesn't fit in. Unbeknownst to her, the reason she doesn't fit in is that she is one of the missing princesses of Fallada. Her world is suddenly turned upside down when Titus and then the Brothers Grimm find her. Soon she is back in Fallada and she has some important choices to make. I loved this story and how well-written and descriptive it was. The characters were well-developed and had a lot of personality. The storyline flowed smoothly and had action, adventure, romance, good vs evil, and family & friendship. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and get to know the rest of the lost princesses of Fallada.

I fell in love with Fallada from the very start =) Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Love is not a strong enough word for this book. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, but this didn't seem like your typical run-of-the-mill fantasy story, so I gave it a shot, and boy am I glad I did!! The opening sequence just grabbed me, especially when the Brothers Grimm were mentioned, and I was reading as fast as I could to see where it would go from there. While at the start, it was a little hard to keep up with all the unusual names and where they belonged in the story/depiction of Fallada, it got easier the more I read. And speaking of Fallada, what beautiful descriptions! The author actually conveyed her image of Fallada and all its lands and inhabitants through her words, and I could picture everything in my mind as though I was standing there myself. Wonderful imagery, and it greatly adds to the story. Meanwhile, the characters are just loveable, especially Selena and Titus, and I can't wait to see what happens next, both with them and the land itself. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book, as the Epilogue has me sitting on the edge of my chair, wondering whose story will be told next, and how it will affect what we know so far. Amazing story I would recommend to pretty much anybody who loves making a movie in their head while reading =) 5 stars (but really a ton more)
