All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
American Idol seventh season runner-up David Archuleta was the same age as Jordin Sparks, the season six winner, but he always seemed much, much older -- a creature from a different era, a time where Up with People peacefully merged with the sound and sensibility of the pre-Nirvana '90s. Modernity seemed foreign to Archuleta, which wouldn't prevent his success in American Idol, a show that lives in a permanent oldies fantasia where it's still rebellious to sing the Allman Brothers some 35 years after their breakthrough. While rebellion is anathema to Archuleta, there's no doubt that the kid is sweet, something that shone through on the show, and he manages to ...

Modernity seemed foreign to Archuleta, which wouldn't prevent his success in American Idol, a show that lives in a permanent oldies fantasia where it's still rebellious to sing the Allman Brothers some 35 years after their breakthrough. While rebellion is anathema to Archuleta, there's no doubt that the kid is sweet, something that shone through on the show, and he manages to sidestep saccharine pitfalls through much of his eponymous debut -- delivered six months after AmIdol season seven drew to a close. The producers keep him away from anything rhythmic through most of David Archuleta, with only the overly busy rhythm tracks distinguishing this as a 2008 release. Archuleta does sing well -- maybe not with a sense of storytelling, but as a highly coached performer who can hit the marks with accuracy.
Billboard - Kerri Mason
The 17-year-old who was one of the most exciting American Idol contenders has one of those once-in-a-decade pop voices: A silky tenor with a natural melancholy that makes him a heartbreaker by default. His charming debut exploits that very quality with some strokes of pop genius.

    David Archuleta Goes POP!

Archie delivers the goods on his self-titled debut CD! Every song is radio-friendly, and there's diversity enough to make happy all of his many fans, from every age group and around the globe. This isn't a perfect CD, but there's no doubting it is a fine first-effort. David Archuleta goes POP with a BANG, and, deservedly so, this is one teen idol well on his way to becoming a bonafide star.

    AMAZING!

Ok, I am a huge fan of David Archuleta and all I can say is that his debut album is AMAZING! His voice is just incredible, and the songs are so different and original. The fun, dance songs like Touch My Hand and Your Eyes Don't Lie are great to listen to while just having fun, while the slow ballads like You Can and To Be With You are good to just relax to. Another thing I like is that most of the songs aren't typical love/make up/break up songs. One song, My Hands, is not just a love song, but it's about wanting to just hold onto the moment and get rid of time. Another one, A Little Too Not Over You, the title alone is the most original song title I've ever heard. Being a little too not over someone, grammatically incorrect, but creative enough to actually understand it. Another song, Barriers, one of my favorites, is about there being too many barriers in their relationship. It's one of the most mature songs on the album, and the lyrics are really different and creative. "Our love's burning down, Creepin' in the doubt, We're not getting any stronger", "If I don't get into my car, i won't go very far", just few of the creative lines of the song. Another one, Touch My Hand, probably one of the cutest songs on the album about him seeing a girl and wanting to touch her hand so he can see her, because she's already the only one he sees, and he might never get the chance to see her again. very cute, and a lot of fun in concert. One last one, Don't Let Go, not wanting that person to let go when they have a problem. I really like David's voice in that song and I especially like the lyrics "Try to hear your heart ache through the door, Call it love, Call it what you want to, It's the only thing that matters anymore." Basically, he wants to know what's going on with her behind closed doors because he loves her and wants to help her. I love that.
Basically, the songs on this album aren't just sweet, love songs. there's more to them than that. They all have messages to them, and that's what David wanted on the album. All in all, if you're looking for something different and catchy to listen to, listen to David's album because once you listen to them, you'll be hooked.

    David's Biggest Fan

This is my favorite album of all time. I love David Archuleta! The music on this album is great. There are upbeat catchy, songs; there are also slow, easy songs; and there are some songs that you can really relate to. He has the most incredible voice, and the lyrics to the songs are amazing too. This is must have. I can't wait for his next album.

    Great New Artist

David Archuleta is an amazing singer, with a lovely voice. Is song Crush, is my #1 favorite. I can't get enough of it, and I constantly listen to it. When he sings, you can tell he puts genuine feelings into each word, and that he's singing from the heart.

    Great voice, unnecessary digital synthesizing

David Archuleta has a beautiful voice. His songs didn't need the synthesizer, almost disco-like hand clap type beats that were present on most of the songs. For me, this fake beat was too loud and detracted from his voice, which I thought was a shame because he has such a good voice. He shouldn't need the manufactured stuff. I think 3 of the songs didn't contain this background beat - the more ballad-type songs - and those were my favorites. I could live with "Crush" having that synthesized beat - but not nearly all of the other songs. Crush would have been better without that fake tinny beat, too. Of course drums and percussion were needed, but not the fake tinny disco beat.

    David Nails It!

I really like all the songs on David's Crush Album. When I heard the Eagles new song on the radio this morning, I thought I would love to hear David sing it because it would be just his type of song. I look forward to listening to David for a long, long time. He's just got that special something that we don't see very often in the music world.
