Although this book has some action and adventure, it was a little disapointing to be a sequel to the excellent book 'Kidnapped'. Its adventure is small and short lived, David's romance with Catriona is the chief theme of the story, and Alan is hardly in it at all. It lacks the friendship, thrills, and courage that 'Kidnapped' contained, but (don't get me wrong) it is still worth the read if you wnat to know what happens to David Balfour.

'David Balfour' was a great book, and just as well written as Kidnapped. However, it does not have as much adventure as it's prequel. Don't read this book unless you have read Kidnapped. If you are interested in romance and adventure this is the ideal book to read. It's great! (the illustrations are cool too)
