Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Yes, I saw David Beckham make his debut appearance when the Los Angeles Galaxy played D.C. United (and LA lost). It was wild—the stadium was full and the fans were rocking. Some fans never sat down, and they went crazy when Beckham came into the game. So, it was with great interest that I read a little more about this soccer phenomenon and his career. He knew that he wanted to play professional soccer from a very early age, and he worked hard to achieve his goal of playing for Manchester United and representing England in the World Cup. The writer makes it clear that Beckham's career has had some ups and downs, with conflict and hard decisions, such as leaving the team he loved to play in Spain and now the United States. Lest one feel too sorry for David, the author points out that he has a happy home life with a famous wife and three children and has ended up with a $250-million, five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, who unfortunately finished near the bottom of the league in 2007. Sports-minded kids who are reading alone will learn plenty about Beckham in this "All Aboard Reading"—Station Stop 3 book. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
