I own digital cameras by several manufactures, and to be fair, I have to say the Canon supplied manual is not the worst by a long ways. I own manuals by David Busch for all my cameras. Because he writes closer to the way I think, I find his manuals much more informative than the Canon manual. If for no other reason, having another manual cover a topic from a different view point can some times make the whole topic clear. (the first manual introduced you to the topic, and the second one clears it up so you now understand it.
If you don't learn your camera from use and your manual, how are you going to learn it? With a manual, you can come back and review an infrequently used topic (custom white balance anyone) when you need to.
