Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 7–10—Nakaba is forced to marry Prince Caesar in order to unite two disputing countries. However, Nakaba is from the poorer country and is considered different, even discriminated against because of her red hair. Caesar is constantly telling her what to do and often makes her feel like a hostage in the marriage. Nakaba has a secret weapon, though, the faithfulness of her Ajin, Loki, who is often referred to as a pet or dog by the wealthier class. The Ajin are considered inferior to humans and forced into slavery. Nakaba has grown up with Loki looking after her and, even after Prince Caesar injures and exiles him, he always miraculously returns to her side when she is threatened. A second volume of this story would help greatly because this one just starts to get interesting after introducing the characters and the roles they play in this world. The art is also different from traditional manga because the characters are clearly individualized by their cultural differences and hairstyles.—Jessica Lorentz Smith, Bend Senior High School, OR

What a great book! The characters each have a view all their own

What a great book! The characters each have a view all their own and they aren't all as they apear. Loki obviously knows more than he lets on and Caesar may be a real jerk in the beginning but he has his demons and yes he does have a heart somewhere deep, deep down there, and it's a pretty nice one at that.
Nakaba is a great, strong heroin who is very lucky to have Loki around. I mean he's adorable <3!
Anyway there is some seriously, for lack of a better term, WEIRD kissing in this book so try not to puke but other than that it is just a sweet book with some awesome jousting and sword wielding moments. This series is definately one to follow.

    Surprising

Never heard of this but in the summary read the name Loki and immediately wanted to read this. But at the same time, the summary sounded interesting none the less. The main character surprised me and I was like, wow, is she going to be a strong heroine? Thank you and smiled when she stood up for herself. I was like, finally! And it seems there's more to the prince too. Very good start to a series I just might continue reading.

This is an amazing series that has a lot of depth and emotion both in the characters and the storyline. I was a bit unsure of this at first, but after the first chapter was quickly drawn in. The story is a bit slow at first, but has enough intrigue and action to keep me at the edge of my seat.

By far the best part of this series is the relationships between the three main characters Nakaba, Loki, and Caesar. They each have their own unique personality and many times they clash with each other, but little by little we see some of the softer sides of them and how even when they absolutely hate each other they are able to bring out the best of each other.

Nakaba is calm and generally level headed, but her fiery temper comes to the forefront whenever someone threatens Loki. Nakaba and Loki do not have a romantic relationship, but their love for one another clearly shows through. Loki would give his life for Nakaba and she in turn would do the same. Although I love these two I did like seeing them coming to trust others a little more as the series went on. It showed how much they had grown.

On a side note I am secretly hoping that maybe just maybe there will be something between Nakaba and Loki in the future, but so far no good.

Caesar definitely has one of the bigger personalities in the book. He is obnoxious, arrogant, rude, insensitive, and yet at the strangest moments a softer side of him is shown. I think out of all of the characters he has grown the most. Though it happens gradually he does seem to show more of his true self as the series progresses. I liked this character because of how interesting and unique he was. He may not be someone I would be friends with in real life, but he definitely brings makes things livelier wherever he goes.

I cannot wait to read more of this series and highly recommend this to all shojo fans!

I really loved this story! I was not sure if I would like this so I only purchased the first one. After I finished I regretted not buying the rest. The story was well done. I could not figure out how it would end, making it hard to put this story down.
