Phelps Lake. . .This hike follows a beautifully forested trail to an overlook of the 525-acre Phelps Lake, the fourth largest lake in the park. The glacier-formed lake sits along the base of the Teton Range at the mouth of Death Canyon. Along the way to Phelps Lake are frequent springs and abundant wildflowers. From the overlook, the trail descends 600 feet to the lake. Trails lead from Phelps Lake into the deep backcountry canyons of the Tetons, including Death Canyon (Hikes 43-45), Open Canyon (Hikes 46-47), and Granite Canyon (Hike 48).
