Indeed, it seems boring until Jimmy pulls out his pet boa constrictor to meet all the animals. A kid's free-for-all ensues--eggs are thrown, pigs brought on to the bus, a cow cries, and the boa eats the laundry off the line--making this far from a typical class field trip.     Classic to share with one's own kids!!

    The first time I saw this book was on Reading Rainbow when I was about 8 years old. I have never forgotten the story nor the illustrations. Since then I have been a big fan of Steven Kellogs art and have encouraged my own kids to read his books. Classic tale about a boy and his boa constrictor and a boring school field trip-- boring until the cow started crying... the results: mayhem. My youngest son has been struggling with his reading and often resists reading, however when this book was listed as one of the books on the accelerated reading list from his school, we went to the library and picked it up for him immediately. I've never seen him so enthusiastic about any book and I am eternally grateful for this experience.
