Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Batman and his friend Green Arrow are working to stop a prison break, but suddenly they are transported by Merlin back to the fifth century. King Arthur's half-sister Morgan Le Fey has taken over the kingdom and turned everything to stone. The only thing that can make things right again is for "the one who is worthy" to remove Excalibur from its stone. Moran Le Fey is not having any of this and she sends her minions to try and stop the duo. A major battle is underway and it flips back and forth as to who is the stronger. Readers know that it will all work out in the end because, these superheroes always win, but there is a nice twist to the story. The illustrations are cartoon stills and one assumes that they are taken from the teleplay which in turn was based on the original stories about Batman created by Bob Kane. Part of the "Penguin Young Reader" series, this title is a Level 4 book appropriate for fluent readers. It has been designated Guided Reading Level "N." The opening page has a note addressed to parents and educators which discusses the series and ways to promote reading. The back cover offers additional information about the various levels.
