‘Dead Beat’ has lots of action and gore along with some twists and turns along the way.  You also have the dichotomy of our main characters fighting both zombies and other humans.  If this book seems to follow a similar pattern to other zombie books you’ve read that would be because it does.  While it doesn’t offer anything else to the genre (other than being set in the UK for all you anglophiles) it’s well written and fun.

I absolutely fell in love with Mr. Porter's writing. It draws you in so fast that after half the book I couldn't put it down!!! Can't wait for more from this great author!

When the people of Haven begin to turn into zombies the survivors have to choose between a fenced community ruled over by Jack Nation and his evil son Griffin or local cop Johnny Silverman for protection. As normal law and order no longer applies, the most revolting things that happen in Dead Beat are not necessarily the actions of the flesh-eaters, foul though they are. As in any war, there are some who use it for their own ends but it is the 'making' of others. In Dead Beat, Lester, the drunken vagrant joins forces with Johnny and their often humorous banter provides a shift in tone. There's even a love story. In fact, Dead Beat has it all - humour shifts to horror in the blink of an eye. I enjoyed Porter's wit and the way he acknowledges the inhuman in the human.
