The Darkest Sins

He begins his work just before dawn, wielding a knife with the precision of a surgeon. Cunning and meticulous, he's always in control. Mercy is not an option. . .

Will Always

Maleah Purdue is tough, outspoken, and completely dedicated to her work at the Powell Security Agency. But her fearless exterior shatters when a madman begins killing her colleagues one by one, mimicking a notorious serial killer already behind bars. Working alongside top profiler Derek Lawrence, Maleah will do anything to find the murderer, even if it means playing a psychopath's twisted mind games.

Come To Light

No one connected to the Agency is safe. No one is beyond suspicion. For as Maleah and Derek piece together the clues, they uncover a chilling legacy of lies and brutal vengeance—and a killer who has been hiding in plain sight all along. . .

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
A serial killer has the Powell Security Agency in his sights, and he is slicing up the employees and their family members one by one—and in deliberate imitation of an earlier slasher, the Carver. The killings devastate the agency, but they have a personal meaning for Det. Maleah Purdue—her college boyfriend was slain by the Carver. As they work together to make sense of this increasingly twisted puzzle, Maleah and criminal profiler Derek Lawrence are faced with the dual problem of stopping a killer who is closer than they think and dealing with their relationship, which has taken a surprising turn. VERDICT The popular and dependable Barton has again created an intricately plotted, thoroughly engrossing serial killer tale that satisfactorily resolves the current dilemmas but leaves a stunning cliff-hanger, leading up to Dead by Nightfall (Dec. 2011). Barton (Don't Cry) lives in Alabama.

Oh my gosh I loved this book. I have read everything that Beverly Barton has ever wrote and loved them all and not just because we share a name. Her books draw you in and when you think you figured it all out or it's over, she throws something else at you. I can hardly wait for the next book in the Dead by series. The next one, Dead by Nightfall, comes out in Dec and it cannot get here fast enough. She is amazing and this book is a must read in a long line of must reads!!

I love this author... but this was not her best work..The Powell Agency didn't seem very competent ..they were all running around in circles not capable of solving anything..Hopefully ,the next sequel will be better!

This book was a great addition to the Griffin Powell series. I really liked the main characters, Maleah and Derek, and as always enjoyed seeing other familiar characters from the series. It was great to see Maleah and Derek go from an adversarial relationship to one of a much different sort. I liked watching their feelings for one another develop. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat, and I can't wait to see what happens next! I was surprised by the cliffhanger ending, and some of the developments at the end of the book. As usual with the author, I found the book compelling and couldn't put it down.

I bought this book and then found out that Beverly Barton 'died 4/21/11 due to heart failure. It was bittersweet to read knowing that after this year, she won't be writing any more books. unless there is a Phantom writer(s)

Beverly Barton has surpassed the mark. I look forward to her books; they are engaging and if you are not careful once you start you can't put it down. I looked forward to turning the page. The story line was so good I shared it with a close friend. You will not be disappointed.
