Overview

An American Library Association 2009 Popular Paperback for Young Adults title

"DEAD GIRL WALKING is a great teen read: suspenseful, fast-paced, and loads of fun!"
--K.A. Applegate, author of the ANIMORPHS series

I am so dead...
Now, was I supposed to go left or right at the Light?

Seventeen-year-old Amber Borden has a lousy sense of direction—so lousy that she takes a wrong turn when returning from her near-death experience. She ends up in the body of the most popular girl in school, who has just tried to commit suicide.
Can a girl who can't even navigate the halls of Halsey High discover the secrets of her new identity and find her way back to her own life?

Meet the Author

With plots involving twins, cheerleaders, ghosts, psychics and clones, Linda Joy Singleton has published over 25 midgrade and YA books.

When she's not writing, she enjoys life in the country with a barnyard of animals including horses, cats, dogs and pigs. She especially loves to hear from readers and speaking at schools and libraries. She collects vintage series books like Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden and Judy Bolton.

When Linda is asked why she'd rather write for kids than adults, she says, "I love seeing the world through the heart of a child, where magic is real and every day begins a new adventure. I hope to inspire them to reach for their dreams. Writing for kids is a gift, a responsibility, and an honor."

A great book for kids and adults alike. Filled with adventure and interesting problems, with a touch of romance - just enough to make this book a really wonderful read. Don't miss this one!

    Great for Fun

If you're looking for a good, fun book you've found it. The main character is witty and different. I loved how the auther made the storyline fluid and not choppy. I was captivated, but I wouldn't recommend it for my age group unless you're into this genre. Grades 6-10 may enjoy this. I loved the book enough to read the second installment.

This was actually a very good read. I was actually hoping for a sequel. There are a few typos but not enough to distract from the story. I suggest you curl up and have a good read!

The Most amazing book ever written

This book is great even when it starts. If you read this book you can never put it down and you just wanna keep on going. Its a thriller yet its a romantic book. You could happily reread this book a thousand times and never get bored with it. The main character(Amber) is a hero to teens. It shows how she struggles and it shows how she is thinking. Not was someone is seeing of her but what she is really seeing. Or how she sees and solve her problems. I give it two thumbs up! Good job Linda =D

Reviewed by Jennifer Rummel for TeensReadToo.com

Directly after eavesdropping, learning how the populars view her, and finding out that she's received a collegiate scholarship, an out-of-control mail truck hits Amber.

Despite her severe injuries, she doesn't die. Exactly.

Instead, her soul ends up in the body of a fellow classmate: Queen B Leah. Leah just attempted suicide and Amber's desperately trying to adapt to this new life. She's dying to know why the most popular girl in school hates life. Slowly, Amber uncovers layers of Leah's life and realizes that things aren't always wonderful for the school's golden girl.

When Amber realizes that she might never escape Leah's body, she attempts to make some major adjustments.

Linda Joy Singleton starts up a new series with DEAD GIRL WALKING, where she perfectly combines the hardship of teen life with a paranormal aspect, immediately hooking readers.

    A reviewer

Amber has a terrible sense of direction but that doesn¿t stop her from going to Jessica Bradley¿s party. Jessica is friends with Leah Montgomery, who just happens to be one of the most popular kids at school. Taking a tip from one of her many self-help books, Amber hopes to meet Mr. Mongomery, who¿s in the music business. After overhearing what the girls really think of her, she takes off realizing she was foolish to even think Leah and her friends would want to be around her. Later, after a freaky accident, she has an out of body experience. To her surprise she ends up in none other than Leah Montgomery¿s body. Now it¿s up to Amber to figure out how to get back into her own body. Along the way she discovers some truths about Leah¿s life which include an airhead boyfriend, an alcoholic mother, and a Daddy dearest who has a scary obsession for body perfection. Amber finds out maybe being the most popular in school isn¿t what it¿s all cracked up to be. When she tries to tell her `new¿ family the truth, the father threatens to send her to a mental institution. Her real family is back at the hospital waiting to donate her organs. Time is ticking away. She has to get back to her own body or she will forever be AmberLeah. I really loved this teen-like Quantum Leap tale. This fast-paced and suspense filled novel will have the reader following Amber as she tries to figure out how to get back into her own body while dealing with sudden popularity. Singleton does a great job of showing a paranormal world with some twists and surprises. I especially loved the role a beloved pet plays in comforting the soon to be deceased. Amber¿s struggles feel real especially as she tries to communicate with her friends and family on what has happened. I couldn¿t help but think this would make a wonderful teen TV series. Each chapter ends with a hook, pulling you in to read more. I highly recommend this book to fans of Singleton¿s SEER series and to others who love a good paranormal tale with a twist.
