All Music Guide - Jason MacNeil
Having achieved a loyal and growing following in Finland and throughout Europe, this Finnish group is more than capable of presenting dark and moody yet very finely tuned rock songs. Starting with "In the Shadows," lead singer Lauri Yl?nen sounds a bit like Darren Hayes from Savage Garden, if moderately influenced by Nine Inch Nails. The tone of the song is lightweight and resembles an edgier or meaner Ace of Base, but thankfully The Rasmus have ample chops to make them credible. "They say that I must learn to kill before I can feel safe," he sings while a bouncy backbeat continues the flow. Seamlessly moving into "Guilty," the glossy singalong chorus and slick rock riffs...

All Music Guide - Jason MacNeil
Having achieved a loyal and growing following in Finland and throughout Europe, this Finnish group is more than capable of presenting dark and moody yet very finely tuned rock songs. Starting with "In the Shadows," lead singer Lauri Ylönen sounds a bit like Darren Hayes from Savage Garden, if moderately influenced by Nine Inch Nails. The tone of the song is lightweight and resembles an edgier or meaner Ace of Base, but thankfully The Rasmus have ample chops to make them credible. "They say that I must learn to kill before I can feel safe," he sings while a bouncy backbeat continues the flow. Seamlessly moving into "Guilty," the glossy singalong chorus and slick rock riffs give way to more of a murky Faith No More feeling in its verses. The vocals are also layered atop each other, creating a vocoder-like sound halfway through. An early problem is how often the band leaves the songs to hang on too long with the chorus refrain going too far. An alternative pop tune is the melodic and textured "First Day of My Life," a track that nails a thick slab of anthem rock. Fans of The Gathering might find comfort in much of this album, but the edge is often dulled by solid but safe arrangement, especially during the formulaic "Still Standing." "In My Life" has a mixture of various styles and steps outside the box, morphing from an urgent, darker blueprint to a punk-riddled Bryan Adams within a matter of moments. A gothic "Time to Burn" is perhaps the album's true gem, a song with more than enough accents and hooks to keep the listener enthused. The song also marks a departure from the earlier songs, as the lengthy "Not Like the Other Girls" moves more into their niche, a ballad that brings Def Leppard instantly to mind. Another strong effort is the punchy "Back in the Picture," but "Funeral Song" is quite forgettable. Nonetheless, the radio-friendly "F-F-F-Falling" is a good send-off.

    Became my favorite band

I first heard of them when I saw the Bittersweet music video (featuring Apocoliptica and Him, which I also like a lot). I cannot stop singing their songs now! I listen to them a lot on my Ipod when I work out. AWESOME BAND!!!

    Pretty Good

I got the CD about a year ago when thier first single came out in America , and for about 3 months it was all I listened too, I loved the lyrics and the music was just so original you couldn't not like it. (yeah I know bad english) It was hard to put it down but once you do ...you just sorta forget about it. All in all it was a pretty good CD

    Best Band ever!

God, me and my friend are in love with The Rasmus! Thank you Launch.com for the incoming music video or I wouldn't have know about this awesome band! I wish they could distribute their earlier albums like "Into" and "Hell of a Collection"...They're just as good as "Dead Letters" or even better! Please Barnes&Noble! Sell their earlier albums! Support The Rasmus!

One of the best foreign bands EVER!!!

I saw them on Fuse and conned my mom into letting me buy it. It's one of the best CD's I've ever heard, and if you don't own it,buy it!Also, I'm surprised they speak English so well, but that's not what matters, 'cause Lauri can sing in Finnish for all I care.

    A unique sound

A band that deserves a genre of it's own. Pop/Rock hardly encompasses the sound of this band. The radio hits "In the Shadows" and "F-F-F-Falling" are great songs, yet they are overshadowed by the other tracks. If you enjoy the two songs sharing major airway then I suggest the purchase of the cd as there are many hidden gems such as "Not Like the Other Girls" and "First Day of My Life." Just as amazing cd that you find yourself singing along with.

    Perfect

This record is perfect. That's all I can say. "Funeral Song" is the best song ever. It nearly seems like you can feel the singers pain.

    An Amazing New European Sound

A fresh new look into a world where modern rock seems to lack both skill and talent. The Rasmus brings a fresh new look into modern rock by adding a little european vocal sound as well as euro-techno additions. Not only does The Rasmus bring the sounds of Foo Fighters, Linkin Park's sound effects, but also all around a beautifuly unique sound. The rasmus pulls off most of their music with solid clear vocals that don't make you wonder if the singer can actually pull them off live, but sings with a confidence that only the the most seasoned rock artists can pull off.
