Overview

On a secluded mountain in Eastern North Carolina, Vinny and Barb a newly married couple are enjoying the benefits of marital bliss under Witness Protection, WITSEC. Seven months before the nuptials Vinny testified against the Mafia. Two days later the undercover agent was left for dead. A fake wake was executed right down to the last spoonful of dirt. Six months later Vinny was released from the hospital. He went directly to the love of his life. After convincing Barb he was alive not a ghost, they went to the courthouse.

Three weeks later the bride and groom decide to entertain Vinny’s family for Thanksgiving. At five in the morning the turkey was placed in the oven, pies were baked, trimmings prepared and the table was set. The couple even had time to cuddle before the guests arrived. The day was Carolina beautiful, so what’s the catch? The problem is the guest list.

Vinny’s older sister, Nancy who didn’t exactly connect with Barb when she was married to Nancy’s other, younger brother, Steve, has accepted the invitation to attend the family dinner with her husband, Rick. The retirees will travel from sunny Florida to brave the Antarctic mountain weather. The chip on Nancy’s shoulder is the size of a telephone pole. Her only reason for attending is to give Vinny a piece of her mind. Rick likes Vinny’s beer.

Also on the guest list is Vinny’s older brother, Steve. Steve is Barb’s ex-husband. He will be accompanied by his beautiful fiancée, Gwen also known as the home wrecker. Vinny and Barb are hoping to get through the holiday without a glitch but that only happens in the movies.

Table topics weren’t overly controversial until Maria, which is Vinny’s ex-wife, was painted into the family portrait. Vinny sheepishly reveals, unbeknownst to Barb, he has been communicating with Maria. Vinny announces he will be meeting pregnant Maria at the airport on Black Friday. Words escalate between Vinny and Barb. The new bride thought life couldn’t get much worse. If she had heard the conversation going on in another city and state, the Maria problem would be a moot point.

What was unusual about this day, all the guests spotted a young man standing across the street under the streetlight when they arrived. Since it was Thanksgiving, the guests assumed he was a student home from college. Barb never saw the kid until that evening. The ghost acknowledged her. She crossed him off her problem list.

Black Friday Barb receives an email from her editor. Harvey gives her a deadline of twenty-four hours to complete the revisions to her latest manuscript. Barb can’t think of one meaningful word. She decides to do her normal four-mile run up the mountain hoping to stir up her creative juices. Miffed at Vinny, she disregarded her husband’s warning. The undercover agent told her to stay home and write. Halfway to Buzzards Roost the runner stops to chat with a talkative senior citizen visiting from New York. Ten minutes later, Barb’s body is placed in a black Cadillac.

Meet the Author

An author of a series of nine books, Victorious, Intercession, Victim, Accused, Deception, Whisper, Unfinished Business, Dead Line and Building 23 (almost published), one could say writing is my passion. My sphere of influence has decided that I am a woman of many words, deep thinker, humorous, overly skeptical, borderline critic and a better communicator on paper.

Living the American dream, one can conclude, the real fight in life is the bout between good and evil. Daily we confront the world around us by battling our past, struggling with our transgressions, and shielding our souls from Satan's influences. There is always a victor in each altercation. Winning is not always a victory.

With this premise, I weave diverse personalities into each book revealing their bare bones. My imaginary cast of characters are people I have journeyed with during my lifetime. The circumstances depicted are not all fictional entries. There are elements of truth, sprinkled into the melodrama.

Each breath we take can evolve into a nightmare. Sometimes we concede permitting a false reality to imprison our body, soul and mind. Once released from the shackles of our own self-doubt and worthlessness, understanding we are all woven by the same Weaver deemed worthy and irreplaceable by the Creator, the path to peace between God and man has been paved. Youth has its merit but it’s the long, steadfast journey that brings us to the next phase of living when the flesh is shed. Earth is temporal and our body is the cloak covering our eternal destiny.

Concluding, writers are alphabet artists. Paper is canvas and with each stroke of a letter, the imagery brings us closer to a vivid, complex imagination.
