Overview

When the mayor keels over dead in the middle of a speech, a clandestine student society immediately takes credit for his demise. Their mission is to create a perfect political system by any means at their disposal. Clare Vengel, a rookie officer fresh from the police academy and beyond bored with her routine as a beat cop, volunteers to go undercover as a student to infiltrate the secretive organization. A streetwise amateur mechanic, Clare takes a dim view of book smarts—she is of the opinion that higher education is for people who can't handle the real world. In short order, she alienates a popular professor and begins to lose the respect of her police superiors. Soon, another politician is killed, and Clare steps up her clandestine involvement with the suspect students. When two more politicians die, the race begins to apprehend the culprits before her own duplicity can be revealed.

A good solid detective/mystery. Recommended for those cold and rainy days curled up in a big comfy chair or chaise lounge. Good reading.

An adult that doesn't like cussing.

I am an adult (not a 5 yr old) and I don't appreciate books with foul language and/or overt sex. I am glad when a reviewer lets me know if those things are included in the book so that I can make a knowledgable decision.

    No! Not true!

I am on page eighty five, and so far it is an excellent book. Quit the whining over the "inappropriate language". Please, we are not in first grade! Dont be so quick to condemn the book.

I haven't even read it yet, but because of all the customer complaints about bad language - "oh my" - I can't wait to read it. If it is a good book, what difference does it make if "offensive" language is used to emphasize subject matter. Get over it and read the story.

    Too Much Foul Language

This book should have come with a warning label! I don't mind an F-bomb once in a while, but 2 or 3 per chapter is too much. I only read 3 chapters and had had enough. So really, I don't know if the story was good at all. I've actually deleted it off my nook. Hope this helps someone else who doesn't like bad language.

    I couldn't finish reading it.

I made it about a third of the way through the book before my desire faded to zero. There are too many other decent books to read and i couldn't see wasting my time on this one. Talk about a story line that goes nowhere very slowely. The characters aren't interesting in the least. You don't feel any type of connection to any of them. The story goes off on long tedious tangents, i couldnt remember what the story was about. Avoid this one... its free but i still felt like i had been taken.

A promising start for a series. Clare is quirky enough to be interesting. As an American I especially enjoy reading novels set in other countries-- I pick up a little education while I am reading just for fun. I don't know why this book drew so many complaints about language-- it did not seem unusually excessive to me. Just because I don't speak that way doesn't mean I'm upset to read it.

I admit I haven't read this book yet but it's free so what do you have to lose? I don't understand how people can expect the Free Friday choices to appeal to everyone. Open your mind readers, these free books are an opportunity to try new authors at no cost to you. I have found some wonderful books I would never have bought, along with some I didn't care for. Don't like it? Delete it. Don't be stuck in a rut, try something new!

    A good detective story.

What is takes to be a woman police officer and be undercover right out of the academy. Well written, with sparks of humor that work.
