Overview

If you’re a fan of Bella Andre, Jennifer Skully, Lora Leigh, Maya Banks, Janet Evanovich, Mary Janice Davidson, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, and especially fans of JD Robb's Eve Dallas, get ready for Max Starr!

Thirty-something, down-on-her-luck accountant Max Starr has the unfortunate gift of being psychic, a newly-discovered wrinkle in her already messed-up life. Her husband, Cameron, is dead, killed in a botched 7-11 robbery two years ago. She’s cut herself off from friends, moved out of her San Francisco home in favor of a studio apartment, and dumped her flourishing career as a CPA to do temp work.

Now Max has developed an annoying penchant for attracting the spirits of murdered women. Okay, they possess her. And to exorcize them, Max must unmask their killers. But how?! By stepping into the void their deaths created, taking their jobs, befriending the loved ones they left behind. Max goes wherever she has to go and does whatever she has to do, with a lot of help from the ghost of her late husband Cameron and hunky and very enticing Detective Witt Long.

And every possession leads her closer to finding out the truth behind why Cameron died...

In Dead to the Max, Book 1 in the Max Starr series, Max steps into the shoes of a murdered accountant and starts to learn that even supposedly boring accountants can have secret lives and secret desires. Max just has to hope the secrets she uncovers don’t get her killed, too.

    Good read

I loved this book!! Middle of the night I had to buy all the others in the series, I liked it that much! I had never read anything by Jasmine Haynes before......never really heard of her before but she has a new fan in me! I didn't think the sex was too much or too graphic but it was all through the book and I just started the second one and its all through that so if you don't like sex in your books - give it a skip BUT if you do - you don't want to pass this up!

    Excellent Series

I've read the entire series and it is one I like to revisit on a fairly regular basis. Although it certainly won't appeal to everyone with its paranormal slant, the characters are well written, complex and their struggle is more realistic than fantastical.

Plot holes, depressing and poor diction

My major complaint about this book was the plot holes. Our leading lady some how leaps to conclusions on who killed the victim while denying the involvement of a suspect shes lusting after. The characters are poorly developed to the point where I began to be annoyed by Max and her nearly bipolar state. Her dead husbands ghost who is pressuring to solve this case also has some logical character flaws, pushing her to move on, get a new man to love while throwing a hissy fit after she shows interest in the main suspect Nick. I can accept a depressing point in a story bevause hey, how boring would it be to read a book with no plot, however the depressing tone of th book NEVER ENDS! Her diction is also off, just ill fitting for the story. One minute its fancy words that sound asif its just to strut the knowledge of the author then it shifts to conversational curses and dialouge. One final criticism is the sex. Like the book its just not inspiring though its detailed, atmosphere and mood is non exsistant. Just dont waste your money...

    Good story but...WOW!

Wow....this book is something. The entire series is filled with a troubled heroine that is REALLY messed up and continuously makes some really poor decisions. The story is good but you really need to read the entire 5 book series in order to truly appreciate the evolution of this poor gals life.

well I really wanted to like this book however it was a disappointment

I really wanted to like this book and I love books with some good sex in them but can't quite appreciate plain f**king with no good feelings and that is all that it was about. The mystery story line was good and kept me guessing and REALLY if the sex would have been left out the book would have been much better. I wouldn't call it erotic or romance. Glad it didn't cost too much
