Overview

Caroline’s life is on track.
She’s about to get her nursing degree and she’s engaged to rich, handsome Trevor. But, before they get married, Trevor wants Caroline to spend the summer in Louisiana, getting to know her father, who’s never been in her life.
She reluctantly agrees and heads south, deep into bayou country where she meets Cade.
Hot and handsome, he’s pulling out all the stops to convince her that he’s the man for her, not Trevor.
As she becomes frightened by a series of strange accidents that began after her arrival, she learns that the woman haunting her dreams is actually a long-dead family member come to warn her about the men in her life. Caroline soon realizes that if she doesn’t solve the mysteries from the past, they could permanently alter her future.

At one time this 320 page book would been called a ghost story, then a modern gothic, now I guess it would be a paranormal romance. It is part of series and is a cliff hangrr. It was such slow going, I became angry after investing so much time in this book to have come to such an abrupt stop, with very little resolution to the plot or sub plots. There is a quite a few things about this book I did not like, the biggest being, the main character was engaged, but still on the prowl. She was nothing but a big tease. The step mother was truely evil and everyone just accepted it and never said a word. The ghost bit was almost laughable. The fiance was depicted as a bad man, while his bride to be was necking with another man, but then as a good guy, when she was not. There is no sex, p profanity or religion. No humor and not much depth. At least the two main characters do not fight or abuse each other. I can not imagine a father and daughter, after 21 years apart, instantly falling into each other's arm, having a bonded relationship and the daughter moving into the father's home, with in minutes of meeting him. I did not find this book very realistic, even by leaving out the so called ghost. 16 year olds could read this rather tame book. One star for length, one star for absurd imagination. AD

"Caroline's mind effectively blown..." put an end to my misery at page 42 on my nook glowlight. I chose to overlook the preposterous opening sequences hoping to get to a taste of a southern novel. But I would not read another 300 pages of prose like that.

I highly recommend this book. I was sucked in from the start and had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep. This book keeps you guessing and wanting more. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Can't wait to see what twist and turns Ms. McDonough comes up with next.

What a wonderful setting for a historical mystery! I loved delving into the past with Caroline. And Cade is absolutley HOT! The author was able to create a hero who was forward but respectful at the same time. I instantly fell in love with him. The only thing I didn't like was the heroine's thought process or reasoning for staying with her fiance, but this didn't interfere with my want to keep reading. If you love secrets from the past and heros who save their women from it, this is the book for you!

This book was awesome!! As my son would put it. I purposely slow down in my reading on this one because I had hoped that my library was able to obtain a copy of Lifeline, the second book in this series. Who knows, maybe I will get a chance to review that book too. Hey! I can dream... can't I? But after a discussion with my local librarian it appears Judy's books will soon make an appearance upon my recommendation. There are so many factors that I enjoyed about the story. The pace was quite steady with a suspenseful twist throughout the plot line. The on-going dream sequence between Caroline and Rachel was an interesting way to bring a touch of paranormal time traveling to the story line without bogging the whole book down. It allows the reader to understand how the relationships between Caroline, Cade and Eddie, Caroline's estranged father. But then you there to also see the negative tension between Caroline with April and her Fiance - Trevor. And this all coming from Caroline's point of view as the events unfold over the time span of a couple of months in the summer. Judy bring the story, the characters and atmosphere right to you with a well balanced and well researched bringing her knowledge in order to enrich the story. I'm really sad to say that I finally finished this book and like I said earlier, I tried to draw it out for as long as I could. That leaves me saying that I am giving this book 5 out of 5 possible stars. Thank You Judy for writing a book that I just couldn't put down. I love it so much that I know that this book will be on my "Re-read" list. This one will be in my collection a long time as you took the time to sign it! ***Note*** Please know that I received this free copy from the author on Booklikes'. having said that my honest opinion of the book, is just that - my opinion and thoughts of the book.

I absolutely loved this book and not because I'm a Cajun Girl myself. The authors facts about Louisiana and its culture is correct, even down to the daiquiri huts. The mystery had twist and turns. The romance was nonstop with decisions to be made. I just finished the 1st book 10 minutes ago and now starting the next one now.
