Deadlines is the third in the increasingly thrilling and chilling series of Sally Reardon Mysteries.
Here - the problems and mystery follow our psychically gifted cop on a break to the Capital, and Sally finds herself thrown head first into a distressing and emotional trauma from the distant past, meeting lost souls both living and dead. In a cleverly constructed tale that draws on the fears of the Victorians, the horrors of WWII and today's very real conflict between cost and care, Sally must also reconcile feelings about her own pregnancy as she searches for the truth behind the mystery.
With a dose of wry humour to offset the mounting tension, some new and interesting characters, and a wonderfully eerie scene of past events, the two Steves have once again succeeded in bettering the previous Sally Reardon mystery (the excellent Missing) - and with more in the series to come, I can hardly wait to follow her next chilling adventure. Longer than the previous two Mysteries, Deadlines is a satisfying tale that can be polished off in a single sitting - best read on a dark and windy night!
