Overview

A violent clash of cultures and nations tests the forbidden love between a Native American man and a white female cop.

When beautiful police sergeant Alyssa Morgan enters his life, Rémi Whitedeer never expects her to upend it. Not only does she have his hormones in an uproar, she’s also threatening to take the position he wants—Chief of Police for the Iroquois Blackriver Reservation. But Alyssa is more than a Barbie cop. Her ends-justifies-the-means philosophy, so different from his own, challenges Rémi on every level. With her sharp investigative skills and her fearlessness, she leads Rémi to confront bitter truths about his family and his standing as a man of mixed race within his tribe.

Tall hunky Rémi Whitedeer, of the panty-melting grin and the smoldering green eyes, flips Alyssa’s world ass over teakettle. She’s always had a laser-like focus on the job, but Rémi proves a constant distraction. His inner strength and sense of purpose strip away the winner-take-all attitude Alyssa wears like armor. Soon she’s longing for more—a more that terrifies and intrigues her. If he finds out the fine line she’d walked while undercover, will he still want her? And will she ever find the courage to let him—or anyone—that far in?

When Alyssa and Rémi uncover a drug-fueled scheme involving a biker gang from Alyssa’s past and a militant sovereigntist group led by Rémi’s cousin, they are forced to choose between their growing love for each other and the lives they’ve worked so hard to build. Will Rémi and Alyssa have to leave everything behind—even their identities—for the chance of a future together?

In addition to being a wonderful romance story, this book offer

In addition to being a wonderful romance story, this book offers a unique look at the life on an American Indian reservation. The political issues in this book are common in many populations. A reservation just seems to be a microcosm of our world. We get a closer look at prejudice, in one of its many forms, and how that can impact relationships.

In addition, the men in this story are hot. Not only the hero, but also his friends and family who help him save his family and the girl. The political intrigue and setting help set this book apart from others in the genre. And having a good story to go with the heat helped push this book to 4 out of 5 clouds.

Deadly Addiction is an outstanding 5-star novel

Deadly Addiction, written by Kristine Cayne, is an outstanding novel earning a solid 5 out of 5 stars. Before reading Cayne’s Deadly Vices series, I had never read an actual romantic thriller/mystery. I had read plenty of romances with a slight plot twist to keep things interesting and keep the novel from revolving around love, sex, and “soul mates”. Never have I read romance novels written with the talent and skill that Cayne possesses.

First off, I need to say that the characters are brilliant. Cayne gives the opportunity to get to know the characters through many different sets of eyes, as the story is told through many different viewpoints. Typically, this isn’t something I am a fan of; however, she pulls it off without creating confusion.

Each character is unique and has many different layers, creating believable individuals who stir the most basic of human emotions. Rémi Whitedeer and Alyssa Morgan were by far my favorite characters. I loved them individually – their struggles and inner-demons, as well as their triumphs and compassion. I also love the way the two played off each other.

The way that Cayne told each character’s back-story a little bit at a time, rather than all at once in the beginning of the novel or upon introduction was a refreshing change. It left a slight air of mystery about the characters and helped them to feel more life-like.

The final aspect of Deadly Addiction that I want to mention is, honestly, just how addicting this novel is! Much like it’s predecessor (which I was thrilled to find Addiction wasn’t a literal sequel to Obsession), Addiction is a fast paced, romance and action packed novel; however, not to the point of being over-whelming. It’s attention grabbing and once it has your attention it doesn’t let go until the final pages. While the action and suspense is definitely there and there are your standard lulls in the adrenaline and the romance also helps to break up the thrill seeking, adrenaline-rushing. These lulls help the novel to find that perfect medium between “nail-biting suspense/mystery” and “sappy sex-driven romance” novel. What you find in the end, is sheer perfection and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to make it until the next novel comes out.

Deadly Addiction has everything you could want in a great book – suspense, romance, an oh so sexy alpha male, a kick-ass female lead…and so much more! I'm not even quite sure where to start with this because I just loved everything about this book.

The characters were written exceptionally well. The author has a way of getting inside of the heads of her characters that is nothing short of amazing. I loved the relationship between Alyssa and Remi from their very first meeting. The flirting was fun, the chemistry was hot, and the sexual tension was done in a way that left you always on the edge waiting for what was going to happen next!

Alyssa is a cop trying to salvage her career after questionable tactics while working undercover. She is sent to the Iroquois reserve on an "easy" assignment to help set up a group of native officers to police the reservation. Alyssa is trying to put her past behind her but is finding out that it is not such an easy task. Remi is half white/half Indian. He has struggled his whole life to try to fit in and has had to overcome many hardships from his childhood. He fights for what he knows is right while at the same time fighting for freedom for his family and his race. The crazy thing about this story is that everyone was doing what they thought was the right thing for the greater good. Even Chaz was doing what he thought was best to help his people.

There was so much conflict and complexity to the story. The humor laced through was great, and the sex scenes were hot!! Deadly Addictions is one of those books where after you've read a few chapters you're hitting your forehead and asking yourself why the hell you hadn't picked it up sooner!

Reviewed by Nadene R, Book provided by Kristine Cayne, and Revie

Reviewed by Nadene R, Book provided by Kristine Cayne, and Review originally posted at Romancing the Book.
This is the second book in the Deadly Vices series. After reading the first book in the series, Deadly Obsession I was looking forward to reading Deadly Addiction. It was absolutely worth the wait. What does one get when a hot male ex- cop is teamed up with an equally sexy tough as nails female cop? A hot and exciting read. Deadly Addiction is that and more.
I was first introduced to Remi Whitedeer in Deadly Obsession and was quite intrigued by him and was hoping that he would have gotten his own story. Remi is a an ex-cop turned first responder/drug counselor. His greatest desire is to see law an order restored to his tribe. He hoped that this would be achieved through the formation of a tribal police force. I absolutely adored Remi. He cared about his people and wanted what was best for them. He was a man with a very troubled past. His maternal grandfather had helped him to avoid the path of destruction and it was for this reason that he was determined to help others who were at a disadvantage.
Alyssa Morgan had joined the police force as she was intent on avenging her brother’s death. She got her chance but it was not without its consequences. Due to her unorthodox methods of handling her last case she was forced into a new assignment which involved setting up a task force for the Iroquois Reservation. This proved to be an assignment that was riddled with trouble. She is what one would consider to be tough as nails. She felt that she had to put on this tough exterior so as to be able to compete with her male counterparts.
Chaz Whitedeer, Remi’s cousin, is one character that I absolutely detested. He was so caught up in himself that he failed to see that his actions were selfish and despicable. He was delusional in believing that what he was doing was in the best interest of his tribe. He was a racist and he hated anything and anyone that did not fit into his goal of what he believed was good for his people.
The connection between Remi and Alyssa was evident from their first meeting. Alyssa was struck by Remi’s looks and vice versa. They both became involved with each other however they encountered many obstacles throughout the course of their relationship. I loved the way Ms. Cayne dealt with the issue of race and culture especially as it relates to Remi and Alyssa. I also liked the way she dealt with the issue of Alyssa’s past and the impact it had on her relationship with Remi.
This was a very gripping and entertaining story. It grabbed me from the very first page and it was very difficult to put down. This is a highly addictive story that’s filled with suspense, action and mystery. It’s also very emotional and touching as it made me laugh and it also brought tears to my eyes. The descriptions were vivid and life like and the story flowed beautifully from beginning to end and it does not leave the reader hanging. The story was very fast paced.
I really enjoyed this story and I would absolutely recommend this book to readers of romantic suspense.

Deadly Addiction is part of an Addicting Series!! Deadly Addict

Deadly Addiction is part of an Addicting Series!!

Deadly Addiction, the second book in Kristine Cayne’s Deadly Vices series isn’t what we typically find in the romantic suspense genre. In addition to being a fast paced, emotional story, it’s intriguing, thought provoking, and unique. Oh, and definitely very sexy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Deadly Obsession, and had fallen hard for Nic Lamoureux's half-breed friend, Rémi Whitedeer. When Ms. Cayne assured me that Rémi would be getting his own story, I was more than a little excited, and to find out his was up next... well, suffice it to say the wait was agonizing, but well worth it!

At first I was a bit concerned that this would be a 'message' story, but in the end I was quite impressed by the way the sensitive, potentially volatile subject of First Nations autonomy and sovereignty was handled. Too often I feel like authors use their stories to try and sway readers to their way of thinking without bothering to provide all the facts so we can form our own opinions. Fortunately, that's not the feeling I got while reading this book. Truth is, the way Ms. Cayne presented this story, with fact infused fiction, made me want to learn more about the events mentioned in the book. And, in addition to the political issues, we also read about the alarming growth rate of drug and alcohol addiction on Native lands. Now, it might sound like a dry read, but make no mistake about it, Deadly Addiction is anything but. There's just enough detail to keep things interesting, but not so much that it bogs down the story.

As I said, I was totally drawn to Rémi before even beginning this book. He's such a complicated man, and yet at the very heart of him, so down to earth. So grounded. I loved how he fell so hard for Alyssa that he was willing to do whatever he had to go, give up whatever he had to give up, to be with her. The romance is a solid, major part of the story, and kept the flow steady. The sexual attraction and chemistry was clear from the start and in the end, despite the odds, Alyssa and Rémi got the happily ever after they were so deserving of.

    4.5/5 stars

**My thanks to the author, Kristine Cayne, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I read this as part of the Sugar and Sin book bundle, and it one of my favorites in the bundle. It’s a really good romance suspense that kept me reading to find out what happened next. I am looking forward to reading more stories from Ms. Cayne.

She is a white female cop trying to form a police squad on the Blackriver Reservation, he left the police force to help on the reservation that has been his home. When Alyssa and Remi join together to come up with a way that the law can work inside the reservation sparks ignite the first time they meet, but they know nothing can happen between them. Things are not as they appear to be on the reservation, and when Alyssa and Remi get too close to the answers it just might cost them everything, even their lives.

I received an e-ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of a book bundle that contains this title for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
