Overview

The crime was unforgivable.
The suspected murderer—unbelievable.
One man’s pursuit of justice—unstoppable.

The death of promising young pediatric AIDS researcher Eric Miller stunned the Raleigh, North Carolina, community, largely because of the horrific way he was killed. For months, Eric was slowly tortured as arsenic consumed his body.

No one thought that Eric Miller’s wife, Ann—an attractive, demure, educated scientist—could be capable of such a horrible crime. No one except for veteran homicide investigator Chris Morgan, a man in the twilight of his career. But from the moment Morgan saw the thirty-year-old widow in the interview room at the police department, he knew he was seeing pure evil.

Now, journalist Amanda Lamb details Morgan’s dogged investigation—a quest for the truth that would last four years and see another life taken before Ann Miller’s tangled web of death and deceit finally came to light.

A true story about a manipulative psychopath that has many around her fooled and sympathetic. Told through the eyes of a main veteran investigator, the puzzle pieces (clues) of the case begin to add up. What's most interesting are the actions and words of the murderer, Ann Miller, and her family that 'circled the wagons' as stated in the book. A great read that's hard to put down! Highly recommended!

This engrossing book is likely to fascinate both fans of true crime stories and residents of Raleigh, NC, the community left baffled by the arsenic-poisoning death of Eric Miller, a young father and pediatric AIDS researcher with everything to live for. Through the perspective of detective Chris Morgan, one of the investigators in the case, television journalist Amanda Lamb immerses readers in the heart of the story. She brings personalities to life and teases out the tragedy of the case without being maudlin.

The book could have been better edited: the language was sometimes cliched or awkward, and the phrase "crystal clear clarity" ruined an otherwise lovely image. Nevertheless, the story was well told, a fitting tribute to Eric Miller and those who still mourn him.

This is one of the most boring books I have ever bought. I bought it so I made myself read it.
