Ages 10+ Rating 4/5 stars A Deadly Game of Magic by Joan Lowery Nixon is engaging, mysterious, and suspenseful. Four teens driving home unexpectedly run into a massive rainstorm. They pull up to the only nearby old house. Two people, a man and a woman allow them to come in, but mysteriously leave shortly claiming they are going to a party. The teens are positive that they were not the true owners of the house which led to suspicion. Lisa the main character claims she hears strange noises coming from the dark backroom of the hallway. Even mucho man Bo is too scared to check it out same with smarty Pants Julian. Scary stuff happens in this book like severed heads possible murder and more. The kids are sure that someone is in the house with them trying to force them out of the house. I would say this book has good pacing and is very well written and paced perfectly. The only thing I would say is that you can’t have four kids in a living room waiting for something to happen almost the whole book. The characters were really well described and had minds of their own as if they were real people. Joan Lowery Nixon is a great you can’t put them down, it's like you are right there in the book watching everything happen. She is a fantastic writer and captures the perfect style of writing in my opinion. So my overall review is it's fantastic, well written, and very suspenseful. I would recommend it for anyone who likes a good mystery.

Ok, I've got to admit. When you first look at the cover and try to think of it as a thrilling, edge of the seat book it wont happen. When you think of magic what do you think of? Witch craft- maybe; magic shows- more likely. It's usually for enjoyment, laughter, and keeps you wondering how that happended. Well the words run in front of your eyes like a movie. You can picture what is happening but can never really figure out what is going to happen. Not only are the people in a place they aren't used to, they stick together and help eachother out. 4 highschoolers that don't even really talk to eachother may actually turn out to be great friends in the end. What would you do if there was someone in the house, lights out, car broken down, and the whole town is becoming flooded? This is a really good book for a gloomy day. I read it in a whole day. I recomend it. Enjoy!!!

A Deadly Game of Magic is the best book I have ever read!It is so mysterious and dramatic!A little romance from Julian and Lisa, but awsome!Every time I think something is going to happen, something totally unexcpectedly pops in!After I read this book I had to tell my teacher what the book was about.I think I told my teacher a little too much of what it was about.I practically retold the whole book! After I was done she looked pretty exhausted from what I told her!I laughed! This book is so amazing!I hope to read all of Joan Lowery Nixon's books!

Book title and author: A Deadly Game of Magic by Joan Lowery Nixon Title of review: A deadly Game Number of stars (1 to 5): 5 Introduction This book is about four teenagers who find themselves stuck in a dangerous situation. Description and summary of main points Four teens are on their way home from a concert when a horrible Texas storm hits. They’re forced to pull over to the only house nearby to seek shelter. Two people allow them to come in, but strangely leave shortly claiming they are going to a party. Strange things start to happen when the storm gets worse. The phone goes dead, a plaster head suddenly appears, a disembodied hand taps the mantel, and strange noises are coming from the dark room in back. Then the magic turns even more sinister, leading inevitably toward murder. The four teens are trapped unwillingly in a magician’s murderous game. Evaluation This is an amazing book, I am not a huge fan of reading but I was very interested. I was excited to read this book and could not put the book down. I must say, I really enjoyed this book by Joan Lowery Nixon. I had read The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore by her and liked it a lot, and was hoping I would like A Deadly Game of Magic. I was skeptical, sure, but Nixon had me hooked from the very first sentence and I ended up finishing this novel in one sitting. It's about four teens who while on their way back from a competition are forced to pull over at a lonesome house after a rather bad storm arises. A flood occurs and although they would really rather leave, they are forced to stay in this house after their ride finds something unnerving in the dark room down the hall and leaves them stranded. Later, they realize they aren't alone in the house like they were led to believe in the beginning...and it's only a matter of time before the murderous magician performs his finale...and I'm sure you know what it is. Over all, I thought this book was superb. I love Joan Lowery Nixon's writing style; it's easy to read with the perfect amount of description. This book was quite suspenseful and I just couldn't put it down. So if you like those types of books, I suggest you read this one and also check out The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore.

This is one of my all time favorite books. I recommend it to all my students. I was reading it on a stormy night and had to put it away until the next morning. Ms. Nixon can make your skin crawl with fear with just the right amount of realism that makes a good mystery a great read. The house in the middle of nowhere, car trouble, a stormy night, a magician's house, the phone line going dead and the missing guillotine? What more could you ask for? The characters are very believable. You fear turning to the next page but the writing sweeps you into it out of shear terror as the story mounts to its climax. This is a must read for mystery readers of any age from 11 through adult.

This book is so well written that it actually envelopes your imagnation and sends you into a different state of mind. The mystery of it all simply captivates your attention till the last page when the real secret is revealed. Throughout the book, secrets of the past are discovered by four teenagers, but the more knowledge they gain, the deeper the hole they're digging themselves into. If you enjoy thrillers, I recommend you read this at night and actually experience the rush of adrenaline, as you step into the deadly game of magic.

This book is truely awesome. Like I said, it leaves you guessing up til the last page. It is about four high school kids who are driving home through a storm when their car breaks down. They run up to the only house in sight and have to wait there until the Auto Club comes. Much more mischief and madness occur as they later find them selves in a life or death stuggle with a crazy magician who won't show himself to them and plays games of magic, deadly games of magic.

Teena leaned on the sideboard and picked up the little guillotine that stood near her hand. 'Lisa,' she said, 'you told us this was part of a set. Where is the big one?' Bo, Lisa, Julian, and Teena were on their way home from a tough loss at their drama club competition when their plans changed. They thought that they would be safe from the horrible Texas storm inside an old house by the road. When they get inside they find out that they aren't the only ones in the house. It's an old magician by the name of Chamberlain the Great's house and he's supposed to be dead. Will they get out and home safe after the storm during the storm? Or will they get out at all? Which will get them first, the storm or the old magician? I recommend this to anyone who likes a good ending and a suspenseful book. This book is good and really exciting. I couldn't put it down and was always reading it.
