Just a look at the dedication shows the close (and deliberate) relationship between the show and the books.  Outstanding!!  This book continues the plot from Book 4 and carries it further.  It is clever with most of the regular group being even more rounded out.  The author (perhaps Tom Straw) does another terrific job on the plot (including stealing the pizza oven bit from the TV show)

(Minor spoiler coming) In the end, I expected Rook to propose to Nikki, but, of course, this book was written before Castle proposes to Beckett.

    Once again, Well Done everyone!!.

I have enjoyed the Nikki Heat series to this point. Entertaining

I have enjoyed the Nikki Heat series to this point. Entertaining read and dove tails nicely with the characters in the "Castle". But Deadly Heat is a disappointment. From the 1st chapter, it was quite apparently written by a different ghost writer or writers than the previous novels. Nikki's personality is inconsistent with the prior Novels in several ways. Not the least of which is her penchant for dropping the "F Bomb". This language was not present previously (if it was, it couldn't have been used with the frequency encountered in just the 1st chapter alone !! As well, Nikki is displaying a very "clingy/needy" personality inconsistant with the character. The foul language does nothing to enhance the story and is offensive to read. And by the way, B & N charges about $4 more for the same novel than Amazon. Oh, and did I mention it seems to be written in a different literary style than 1-4? We don't expect Dickens but come'n, we don't want Collins either!

The last Castle book I will buy or read

I was very disappointed by this book. Whereas the previous Heat books have been similar to the TV show (smart, fun), this one was a profanity-laced waste of time.

If you watch the series, you don't need to read this book. Ever

If you watch the series, you don't need to read this book. Every plot turn is like "deja vu all over again." It's the opposite of Law and Order's ripped-from-the-headlines approach. This book is ripped from the TV series, with underground CIA bunkers, quick trips to Paris, kidnappings and just way too much stuff happening to a homicide detective. Let the new season begin.

    They just keep getting better...

Richard Castle strikes again. Deadly Heat number five in the series is like a fine aged wine. They just keep getting better, more complex and full bodied with time. My favorite to date. Cannot wait for #6.

    Great series! Very enjoyable read.

I've been reading the series since the T.V. show started. I love the way they have Rick Castle's (Nathan Fillion) picture in the back of the book with a bio that corresponds to the premise of the show. I don't know who is doing the ACTUAL writing of the mysteries, but he?she ? is doing a great job. Good ,fun read.

    Not the best "Heat"

The story, a continuation from book 4, is well done, but unlike most of the series, I started putting things into place sometimes long before our protagonist Nikki Heat did so. However the reveal in the final chapter was a surprise and I was thankful for that. Foul language, not normally found frequently in this series, is at an all time high and that also affects my rating. Overall, not bad, but definitely not the best of the series.

    more from this reviewer

Just as good as the ABC TV show

If you enjoy the ABC TV series "Castle" you will love the books. I plowed thru the 5-book series following Nikki Heat. As a fan of the TV show, it was fun to read the books, too. Well-written, spell-binding, and entertaining to the end. The twists and turns will keep you turning page after page. Great read!

    This one..

This one book pushes me into being digusted with nikki heat..i feel like she has gotten even more childish and pretty much doesnt appreciate rook and rook just takes it. Without giving away the story i cant give examples, but she shouldnt be talking considering what she did in the last book.

After reading some of the reviews posted here.  Some of them negative and saying the book sort of copies the show.  Well I think it was using the show as a back drop for the book.  It goes along nicely with the show as an addition to the show and very cleverly written.  I enjoyed it very much and can't wait for the next one in the series.

Another great book in the series.

I really like the way the books and the TV series interact and compliment each other.
