Meg Foster spent her childhood on sailboats so it's a celebration for her when she's able to buy a house that teeters on the bluff above the ocean. It isn't long, however, before the neighbors inform her Gerda, the former owner, hung herself in the upstairs bedroom. They speak of a crazy old woman and if the two dozen disturbing paintings Gerda left behind are any indication, it's obvious she was deeply troubled.
Then Meg meets Gerda's handsome nephew and all of a sudden, she sees a different side of the old woman. Tortured by the past, it's soon obvious to Meg that those paintings are actually windows into Gerda's troubled mind. Little does Meg know that unraveling the secrets contained in the smears of paint might easily get her killed.
