Overview

A night of magic turns into a night of murder.

It's Halloween night and the normally unhappy co-workers of the Straker Toy Company are eagerly looking forward to the celebration of their tyrannical boss' fiftieth birthday. None more so than Grace Holliday. After all, it's not every day she gets invited to the annual costumed bash at the Dragon's Lair, the premier magic theater in Manhattan.

What promises as a night of magic and mystery, quickly turns into a night of mayhem and murder when the boss' equally tyrannical wife dies on stage.

According to the police, it was an obvious suicide. Now it's up to Grace to discover which one of her co-workers pulled off the trick of the year before she becomes the killer's next victim.

    So glad this was free!

I didn't finish this book, because the characters were so irritating that by page 100 or so I really didn't care who murdered anyone. I like the protagonist, but she lets the other characters take advantage of her and insult her, with her only response being a sarcastic word or two. It's great that the author could write her characters so well that they come off as strong individuals, but if there isn't any sympathy for them, what's the point? I found myself wishing that the entire lot of them would be killed off!
Good plot but overshadowed by unsympathetic, obnoxious characters. Will delete this off my Nook.

Cute, but quite tiresome by the end. There are some problems with the electronic version. I couldn't get past page 239 with an HD device but my Nook Color didn't have a problem with it. The chapters and chapter page numbering don't work after chapter 19.

I think she should continue to write mysteries. Like all writers

I think she should continue to write mysteries. Like all writers, she should have someone edit her work. There were some glitches in the plot. I loved the sarcasm in some of the dialogue. Keep at it.

    Needs work

Good story line but doesn't flow. The reader easily loses the line. Tighter editing might help or just more experience. If you really want to be a writer keep on writing. Your ideas are good!

Nice cozy but the combo of toys and magic

didnt mesh especially since toy design is a very secret business as is magic props and too many main characters and no firm background on grace at beginning.......especially about the clothes needed grace for toys mystery and then a magic mystery and then a seperate mystery for the building where they could have murdered the owner and had a brother hiding in attic. Certaining designer of a top selling doll could afford an apartment and why not a board game based on the aliens. But this seems to be her first book. Mom

Not a horrible story or plot line,  but there are way too many grammatical and spelling errors for my liking. Probably would not get another one of her books based on that alone, Needs to have someone proofread her novels. Such a disappointment though because I really enjoyed the story.

    Disappointed

A slow read, took a lot to continue but I wanted to give it a fair shot. The heroine, Grace, seemed rather lost throughout her "investigation" then at the end, it all just adds up, viola! Rather disappointing ...
