Overview

A night of magic turns into a night of murder.

It's Halloween night and the normally unhappy co-workers of the Straker Toy Company are eagerly looking forward to the celebration of their tyrannical boss' fiftieth birthday. None more so than Grace Holliday. After all, it's not every day she gets invited to the annual costumed bash at the Dragon's Lair, the premier magic theater in Manhattan.

What promises as a night of magic and mystery, quickly turns into a night of mayhem and murder when the boss' equally tyrannical wife dies on stage.

According to the police, it was an obvious suicide. Now it's up to Grace to discover which one of her co-workers pulled off the trick of the year before she becomes the killer's next victim.

I didn't finish this book, because the characters were so irritating that by page 100 or so I really didn't care who murdered anyone. I like the protagonist, but she lets the other characters take advantage of her and insult her, with her only response being a sarcastic word or two. It's great that the author could write her characters so well that they come off as strong individuals, but if there isn't any sympathy for them, what's the point? I found myself wishing that the entire lot of them would be killed off! Good plot but overshadowed by unsympathetic, obnoxious characters. Will delete this off my Nook.

Cute, but quite tiresome by the end. There are some problems with the electronic version. I couldn't get past page 239 with an HD device but my Nook Color didn't have a problem with it. The chapters and chapter page numbering don't work after chapter 19.

I think she should continue to write mysteries. Like all writers, she should have someone edit her work. There were some glitches in the plot. I loved the sarcasm in some of the dialogue. Keep at it.

I very much enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Good story line but doesn't flow. The reader easily loses the line. Tighter editing might help or just more experience. If you really want to be a writer keep on writing. Your ideas are good!

Difficult to really like many of the characters, most of them are annoying or just plain unlikeable. I liked Grace, but that's not enough to keep me interested in the story.

Very Slow read. I found it hard to stay awake reading this. Can't explain why, but it just moved so slow that i would get bored and tired reading a chapter and would stop till another day.

A 270 page very well-written free murder mystery with the narrative by a woman toy company executive, and a toy and magician company cast of characters. Humor, irony, deception, illusions, and romance. Several suspicions who done it but no positive proof, and the ending was a surprise.

This was a fun book to read. Grace is a lively character and there was just enough suspense to keep me reading. Unlike some of the recent books I have read, I did not have to endure constant graphic sexual connotations but had just enough romance to be fun and interesting. Will definitely look for other books in the series.

This is a badly written book. The story is very boring & the characters are obnoxious. I could not go past page 28.
