Overview

Deadly Stillwater, where Mac McRyan is confronted with the kidnapping of Shannon Hisle, taken in a brazen daylight attack outside a restaurant on one of St. Paul's busiest streets. And Shannon Hisle isn't just anyone. She's the only daughter of St. Paul's most prominent, successful and politically connected lawyer. Mac knows that every political lever will be pulled, that the FBI will be coming in, that the St. Paul Mayor, not his biggest fan, will be scrutinizing his every move and that the media storm will be every bit as intense as the heat wave blazing the Twin Cities. What's more, while all of the signs point to a straightforward kidnapping for ransom, Mac's instincts tell him otherwise, especially after the kidnappers call just hours after the abduction and skip the ransom demand. "Why not ask for the ransom?" he wonders. While everyone assumes the ransom demand will come soon enough, the failure to make the demand gives Mac pause, and for good reason. For the Hisle abduction is just the beginning in a case of betrayal and revenge sixteen years in the making that will ultimately strike at the heart and soul of the St. Paul Police Department.

Be prepared for a page-turning experience when you read this book! Roger Stelljes packs an extraordinary amount of twists, turns and intrigue into just four days as he takes you with Detective Mac McRyan and his cohorts through St. Paul and the surrounding area as they are pitted against seemingly brilliant adversaries. Stelljes' detailed style of writing brings you inside his characters where you'll feel their excitement and their frustrations as you travel with them throughout the Eastern metro and Western Wisconsin areas that are easily visualized through the author's vivid descriptions. A must read for those of us who love this genre!

Deadly Stillwater engages, draws the reader in. Mac and his three buddies are likable guys that take you along for the ride as they race against time to solve the mystery and keep two young ladies from dying in a coffin built for two. Having choosne this one because of its venue (it is set in St Paul, Minnesota, and its environs-Stillwater is the home of a penitentiary), I was delighted to find a good story. This is not quite as good as the Krueger stories, but still very good.

This was the second Roger Stelljes book read and i thoroughly enjoyed it. In addition to being a page-turner, his descriptions of St Paul make me feel like I have been there, which I never have. I am currently reading the next book in the series, and enjoying it just as much as the other two.
