Overview

Critically acclaimed and award-winning author Kristiana Gregory's ACROSS THE WIDE AND LONESOME PRAIRIE is now back in print with a gorgeous new package! After the death of her two sisters, thirteen-year-old Hattie and her family make for a fresh start. They sell their farm in Missouri and journey across the Oregon Trail toward Oregon City. At first the adventure is exciting, but as the days, weeks, and months pass, Hattie realizes what a dangerous and tedious trip it is. As they cross the prairies, news of the fate of the Donner party reaches them, and death, disease, weather, and the terrain take a terrible toll on their traveling party. The Campbells lose neighbors and friends until they almost cannot bear to continue. But Hattie and her family must persevere or risk the same misfortune. Hattie's diary chronicles the hardships of such a harrowing journey, but also captures the small moments, the friendships and celebrations of life, that keep hope alive.

I loved the book so much and could not put it down. I could not believe the twist in the story and was so sad when Mrs Bigg died. Ido feel sorry for Mrs Kenker even though she did steal things from people. I did not like her at first but then when i heard her sons died in a fire i felt sorry for her and her husband. Then her husband jumped off a cliff and i felt so sad for her and started to cry myself. I did love pepper the most because she reminds me of my friemd olivia even though peppers eyes were green and not blue. She was so kind to Hattie and helped her get threw the whole ride to oregon. I thought hattie was selfish and complained alot because she had dirt on herself and never thought about the other people. She so did not like Mrs Bigg in the begining. My mom always says dont juged a person on what they look like or act get to know the person first. But either way i would give it 3468754642489433590198771985382198321385583929210395429113929347582912485492119385829224849392925538393959492328448484848484844392929211029219110202934494943930099999999564748484438228218284844843392920234493292293432821848482929229393339213845584939229219394400433934474747575757575848392229338392929292939484832284848382283483929292929293458584848484838393833383839333844844884449 stars!!!!:)

This is a book that is very touching but I recomend it for ages 10 and up might be a little scary or confusing to youngsters because a lot of people die and if you are not learning about this time then don't read until you learn about the time of crossing the oreagon trail.

This book is worth the money and worth the time and worth reading Everything about it is adventurous and fun, but I would not recommend this for kids 7 and under because of the deaths even though they might enjoy it. I am 12 years old and I got a little sad and scared. So I am giving it 4 stars.

Dear America is a very well written book and this one takes you through the steps of life in how to travel west and what it was like traveling in a wagon and how hard it was to go through rivers, climb high mountains, and cover miles amd miles of desert land with only oxen to pull your covered wagon.
