This book is a selection of my great-great-grandfathers letters which he wrote to his wife Carrie during the American Civil War. My grandmother preserved the letters until she donated them to a University for safe-keeping after the publication of this hardcover book which she had me illustrate.
Captain Thomas N. Stevens' accounts of his first-hand experiences and impressions describe life in a tent and the daily effects of weather, hunger and illness on himself and his men.
Although a man of simple means and education, his values come across as a decent and committed citizen dedicated to the cause against slavery.
