Children's Literature - Laura J. Brown
This book is for beginning readers and uses a number of early reading techniques that will help the new reader to learn how to read. It is an alphabet book. Each letter of the alphabet is represented by a picture. The pictures are sight words. Sight words are words that are immediately recognizable as whole words and do not require word analysis for recognition. They are also referred to as high frequency words, which are words not easily decoded and are learned by sight usually within a look-and-say approach. Every letter in the alphabet follows the same pattern. The letter and picture are presented first and then the word. The word is then used in three short sentences. The illustrations are fun and colorful and easy for parents or teachers to discuss with new readers. This book is written so that it can be read to new readers until the new readers can read it independently. This book will be one requested night after night at bedtime by young ones and something that everyone can enjoy. Reviewer: Laura J. Brown
