Two women. Carly and Tabitha. They each have suffered life-altering events that have left them both traumatically damaged.

Carly Sloan's life was perfect until her security and innocence was torn from her. The vast repercussions from these events threaten to destroy her stability and her chances for a happily ever after. ~ It’s a shame he fell so hard for me because I’m not sure I can love anyone again. Ever. ~ Welcome readers. Welcome to a story of two broken girls. Two girls that will literally jump off the page and rip your soul to shreds. Two girls that will burrow their way so deep in your heart, you will wonder how there is a time they weren’t always there. Two girls that will make you feel a range of emotion and shed tears when you think you can’t possibly have any left. A story filled with depth and range, the likes of which you won’t soon forget. A story of dreams; dreams realized and dreams crushed. A story of overcoming obstacles and discovering love. But most importantly, it’s a story of finding and loving yourself for who you are, no matter your flaws. ~ He is right. I don’t think I’ve ever needed a friend more than I do right now. I have no one. I’m alone. Alone in their present and alone with my past. Alone with my demons. ~ You have been forewarned; Dear Emily WILL grab you from page one and you will NOT want to stop reading until the very last word. We follow two young women throughout ten years of their lives. Well, two years for Tabitha (Tabby) and ten years for Carly. The storyline bounces back and forth between past and present for both women. The past flawlessly explains how they came to be the women they are today and why they made the decisions that shaped their future. The present heartbreakingly tells how their lives intersect, all coinciding with a tale so beautiful and real. The resulting story is so honest but I won’t go into detail. You can slightly gauge the direction it is headed, but this is truly something you need to experience with no preconceived notions. You would think that this would all get confusing. For all intents and purposes we have four different POV’s, and a constant time change. But that would be where you are wrong. Debut author Trudy Stiles writes with such passion and grace that you are effortlessly drawn into these flawed characters, left to experience pure raw emotion. ~ “I’ll still love you tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. I’m not going anywhere, Tabby. Ever. I’m here for you for as long as it takes for you to be fully here with me.” ~ Throughout the book there are many dark themes discussed, in detail. While this is NOT for the faint at heart, they are situations that are all too real for way too many. Without even seeing the words on the page, I never had to wonder how they were feeling. Their sorrow and passion bled from the pages, burrowing into my soul. I cried with them. I cried FOR them. For people to be SO uncaring and heartless, it breaks me to know that exists. If there was one major theme throughout this book it is that you are NEVER alone. Carly had her Wine Wednesday friends and Kyle. Well, they were her everyday friends, but I’m going to call them that. With the introduction of Kyle into this story, it took a whole other meaning for me. He melted my heart when it had been full of so much pain. In as much as he tirelessly worked to help Carly heal herself, he healed me. Back to friends. Tabby had Alex, Seth, and Kristen. For the first time in her life, Tabby had people she could count on. This girl WRECKED me! Devastatingly, curled in a ball on the floor, tears streaming wrecked me. ~ For the first time in as long as I can remember, I have hope. Hope that the crushing pain that I feel in my chest everyday will begin to fade. My youth is gone. My innocence is gone. My baby, Sara, is gone. But, Alex is here. And I have hope. ~ I absolutely adored this story and cannot wait to see where Trudy takes us next. Though Carly and Kyle’s story is over, Tabby’s is far from it. I fell in love with this character and desperately want for her to get her own happy ending. One where she is unconditionally loved, without exceptions. One where she is number one for someone. One where she is loved and treasured. Firstly though, she will have to learn to do this for herself. Family isn’t who you were born with, it’s who you choose. That statement was never truer than with this book. A solid 4.5 stars from me! Cannot wait for the next installment!

When I initially read the blurb for this book, I was lead to believe it would be an emotional story full of heartbreak and redemption. When I needed a strong and emotional book, I pulled this one off my shelves (can I still say this if I use a Kindle?). I had high hopes for Dear Emily, but I was left disappointed for a few reasons. First, the writing just didn't work for me at all. This is my first book by Trudy Stiles, so I have no idea if this is her normal writing style or what. If it is, I can't see myself enjoying by her unfortunately. The writing felt juvenile to me. The inner dialogue, the character interactions... all of it felt kind of ridiculous. I found myself rolling my eyes many times and that's certainly not something I expect to do when reading a book dealing with these topics. The characters just... annoyed me to no end. It might have to do with the writing, but they felt childish as well. They certainly never felt like mature adults that had been through some stuff (if that makes any sense at all). None of them felt realistic. Even worse is there's practically zero back story for any of the characters and that left them feeling one dimensional. All of that being said, Dear Emily felt like it was on the edge of goodness. There's so much potential here. That is what is most disappointing... seeing a book's potential to be a really good story and watching it fall flat. So, while this wasn't exactly a hit with me, I will likely read the next book, Dear Tabitha. I just won't be reading it any time soon. You can read all of my reviews on my blog, KDH Reviews.

**4 Stars** WoW so many emotions in this book..I just didn't like the back & forth between Carly's POV & Tabitha's POV & then also their past & present. This should of been Carly's book & book 2 Tabitha's story! **590+ pages**

Dear Emily is an emotional roller coaster,  I laughed,  I cried, I screamed, but I couldn't put it down. This book will leave you with the best book hang over you have ever had. As soon as I finished the book I knew it would be a few months before her second book came out, so I read it again. The second time I read it, I had even more emotions.  This book is a 10 star read¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

Loved it!! This is a story about love, loss, family, tragedy, sacrifice...It`s a story about Carly and Tabitha, both with abusive pasts. I cannot say enough good things about this book. It alternates between Carly and Tabitha's POV. You definitely can`t miss this story!!

Loved, Loved, Loved!!! Contains: adoption, domestic violence, rape, assault, forced adoption, abandonment Book 1 of 2 in what I call a "continuous series" (this is a series of books where the story does not really end at the end of the book and thus making the next book not a stand-alone) This book grabbed my attention from the moment that I started reading it. I was not able to put it down for too long. I finished it the day after I got it. If I had not know this was the author's first book I never would have known it since this book was so well written. You will be taken on a tidal wave of emotions by the end of this book. I cannot wait to read Dear Tabitha to find out what twists and turns the author has in store for her readers. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Another Fave of 2013 I have come across two phenomenal stories within the last week, and Dear Emily is one of them. This book had me at hello. I was instantly enthralled in the story, the characters, and the remarkable writing. Grab a box of tissues, to dab your eyes, and some chocolate to help console you....because you're in for a truly marvelous story. We are introduced to two women. Both have secrets, a past that consumes them, and both are trying to overcome many harsh obstacles. Tabitha has been left to fend for herself since day one, and Carly was left to fend for herself after one dreadful night. Throughout the story we see these two battle to become better women. We see them learn to accept things and truly find themselves. No matter what has happened, both women are seeking to fulfill their lives. It is a long hard journey for Tabitha and Carly, but one that is going to sit with you forever. You're rooting for both of these women to get everything they desire. Be it love, support, or even just a new beginning. So when their worlds collide with a surprise from life, each woman is forever changed. This is a powerful, thought provoking story. It fills you with so much want and hope for these two women. You just want the best possible outcome for Tabitha and Carly, because you know both women are very deserving of everything. I am so glad that we heard each voice, it just helped you understand both characters that much better. With their alternating POVs, we are hit really hard-----like right square in your heart and gut-----because you really feel their agony, pain, and doubts. I absolutely love that this story is based on real life issues. And not just some random issue, but an issue that can make or break a person. Dear Emily not only broke me, but it fixed me too. It is such a riveting and captivating story from the very first word, to the very last word. I give this book 5+++ Stars!!!

I'm a glutton for punishment.  I knew this would happen.  I waited and waited and waited to read Dear Tabitha because I knew that  it would gut me.  I knew there would be no way that Trudy Stiles could elicit all those emotions from me in Dear Emily and NOT do  it again in Dear Tabitha.  I mean come on this is Tabitha's story after all.  We already knew it wasn't pretty.  But could I stay away?   Of course not!  Why you ask?  The answer is easy.... Alex I had to know Alex's story.  Where would Tabitha end up?  Would she get her happily ever after?  What about Alex?  Would they end up together or remain apart?  Could anyone survive the aftermath of what Tabitha had done?  Did she deserve to be happy?  Did Alex? What was Alex's background?  Could two obviously broken people help each other love and heal from their pasts?  I had so many questions that only the author could answers.  So that left me with no choice.  I HAD to read Dear Tabitha. So now I'm finished with Dear Tabitha.  I've had time to reflect.  My shirt is dry from all my crying.  Slowly my heart has begun to beat again.  The do I put into words what this story did to me?  Trudy Stiles, is, well, she's amazing.  She managed to rip open my chest and remove my heart.  She held it in her hands and squeezed it.  She poked it.  She stabbed it.  Then just when I thought it couldn't take any more, she threw it on the floor and stomped all over it.  It was only after I finished the story, that she very delicately picked it back up, wiped off so very gently, stuck some band-aids on it and carefully put it back inside my chest. ~ I suddenly don't remember what she did to me.  To us, I don't want to remember because I just want to be with her.  But her feelings are clear.  I'm torn up and broken all over again. Alex comes back home to Philly.  Once home, he can't keep himself from seeking out Tabitha.  Only she doesn't quite welcome him with open arms.  Nope not Tabitha...that would be too easy and we all know by now that Tabitha doesn't do easy, EVER!  She's shocked to see Alex.   She's worked really hard to get to where she's at mentally and physically.   She's really pulled her life together in the almost 3 years that Alex has been gone.  I was really happy to see this Tabitha.  The strong Tabitha.  This girl turned woman was independent, resolved, reformed, and not willing to go back to that dark place she once lived. ~ He takes a deep breath and I watch his chest rise and fall.  I want to squeeze next to him and place my head over his heart. I want to know that it still beats for me, like mine has for him all of these years. Of course she still has feelings for Alex.  You can't just tell your heart to stop loving someone.  But does she deserve to love Alex? Especially after what she did to him?  Doesn't he deserve someone better?  See?  Maybe some people are too broken to be together. Maybe love doesn't matter after all.  Tabitha knows that once she makes her confession to Alex he's going to leave her.  But what more could she possibly expect?  Her confession is HUGE.  You don't just shrug it off and say no problem.  You can't just pick up the pieces and move on. My heart races when I think about that scene.  Alex and his struggle to understand what we all already knew from Dear Emily.   I don't know about you but I secretly hoped that Emily was Seth's.  That way maybe Alex's heart could be protected.  But we still don't know who the father is and so we have to witness what happens when Tabitha finally confesses every thing to Alex. ~ "Goodbye, Tabs," I say maybe for the last time.  She gasps but I don't turn around.  I. Just. Leave. I didn't blame him.  I was actually really impressed with his response to Tabitha's confession.  I cannot begin to imagine how I would feel in his shoes.  Anger, hurt, frustration, sadness, even guilt, a lot of's just too much....the pain he must have felt. Grappling with the loss of something he never had.  For a child that might not even be his. ~ "I didn't even get to say goodbye."  This realization hits me the hardest and more tears slide down my cheeks. ~ "Should I trust that she made the right decision for all of us?"......."Did she think I'd try to fight for my daughter?  If she is my daughter." All I could think while reading this story was that there was no way these two could ever pull it together enough to move on.   To forgive each other and build a life together.  There was just way to much baggage and that baggage was too big for anyone to overcome.  Alex was his own kind of broken.  We learn about his childhood and how he became the broody rocker we met in Dear Emily.  His story is no less horrific than Emily's.  His demons are real and just.  Because they could very well be hereditary. His foundation however, was a little more stable than Tabitha's.  I think that's why the scene with Emily's adoptive parents, Kyle and Carly, was so gut wrenching.  I really succumbed to my emotions at that point.  I think that may have been when I connected with Alex the most. It's at this point where Ms. Stiles decided she wasn't done with me.  She actually cranks it up a notch and it's only then that I realize she's going to do the unthinkable.  But even that wasn't enough for the author.  You want to know what really did me in?  What left me in a puddle of my own tears while my husband slept peacefully next to me? Seth's Chapter. I was left sobbing my friends.  My throat actually hurt from trying not to make any noise.  I was so out of control that my husband woke up, without a word he put his arm around me and snuggled.  Only then did I realize, Tabitha finally got what she wanted. Redemption. Family. Love. *A copy of this book was kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review*

Two women from opposite social circles are brought together by one factor: Emily. One woman cannot give the baby she is carrying the home she deserves. The other woman cannot have one of her own and is given the gift of life through the other. Both have pasts that are riddled with broken paths. Both will try to overcome the hurt and torment to seek a better future. Both want the best for a baby that isn't even born yet. Emily will bring these two woman together in this heart pounding, gut wrenching read of sacrifice and love. Going to be honest, there are some sensitive subject matters in this one: rape, abuse. Tied together to bring us a gut twisting, heart aching read. As the author wrote this story, she had to have wrecked herself dealing with all the emotions the painful scenes rolled out. How could she not? Just reading the story, I was in pieces. My emotions were all over the place. It was a lot to take in, but definitely worth it in the end. I was brought to tears with this book. Especially in the final moments, wondering if Tabby would give Emily up or if she would end up keeping her. It was almost too much. We as readers are going through it all with Tabby and Carly, waiting on the edge of our seat, waiting and wondering. I am a nail biter with intense reads and before I knew it, I had gnawed all mine off. I couldn't believe the intensity of it all. I told myself I was just going to read a little more before I started on another book. I mean, I have time before this review is due. Little did I know my emotions would be held prisoner until I finished the entire read. I couldn't just walk away from this book, even for just a few minutes or hours. As you travel from the past and present, between two different POVs, the story will slowly unravel before you. It is a story that is completely fresh and raw all at once. But in the end you will find it worth the read and craving the next in the series. Yes, you will need answers after that shocker of an ending. DEAR EMILY is a must read. 5 big ol' stars from me!

Let me start off by saying My emotions are all mixed up about this book, I know for sure I did not hate it but I did not immediately absolutely love it either! The story is told in dual POV it also goes from present to past which really can get confusing. We start with Carly and Kyle receiving a life changing phone call. During this call they are told that they have been chosen by a birth mother to adopt her baby. Right away we are taken back to Carly's past, at college, where we find out that one night of partying and fun with friends turns into one of the most traumatic nights of her life and also happens to be the reason she cannot conceive her own children. Tabitha has gone from bad to worst almost since the day she was born and being abandoned by her own mother. Then looses the only mother figure she had which left her going from foster home to foster home. She finally finds the courage to run away and only ends up in an abusive relationship in which she experiences her first real loss. Tabitha escapes this relationship and finds herself settled in Philadelphia where she meets Alex. Tabitha thought Alex was everything she wanted however one mistake leaves Tabitha feeling once again alone and pregnant with no one but her best friend Seth, a potential father who is not ready to be a father, to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. The last 20% of the books was the most exciting part for me I was just not sure which way the story would go I wanted both mothers to have a happy ending but this was just not possible, since there was only one baby. I was on the edge of my seat during the last few pages and the end is what made me give this book the 4 stars. My curiosity has been piqued I cannot wait to find out what is in store for Tabitha, Alex, Emily. I most definitely hope to see more of Carly and Kyle. ***ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review***

Sometimes a book hits me so hard that I have a hard time putting into words how it makes me feel. And don’t get me started on the massive book hangover I had after reading such a moving book! This is what happened after I read Dear Emily by Trudy Stiles. The story hits so many emotional points for me–physical violation, abandonment, trust, acceptance and the longing for love. Trudy Stiles tackles these intense feelings by weaving two young women’s lives together in a way that had my sobbing all over my Kindle. The story begins with carefree college student Carly Sloan. After a night of heavy drinking with her friends, life is never the same for the jaunty and beautiful seventeen year old girl. Tabitha Fletcher whole life is a untrustworthy foundation of family and love. She desperately grasps at love and affection, only to find herself pregnant, the baby unwanted by the father, and unable to care for a baby by herself. These two terrible situations bring the very different women together in the most beautifully heartbreaking way possible. What I loved about this book is that you get both Carly and Tabitha’s story. Trudy details the past with the present of both women and how they’ve made their tumultuous journey to meet one another. Carly’s life is a typical upbringing–loving parents, great friends, and college life. One night changes her whole world and she is shaken to her very core. Trudy chronicles Carly’s struggles with honesty and heart breaking emotion. She also has a wonderful support system of friends and family to help her through her trauma. Kyle Finnegan, Carly’s friend and eventual husband, has to be the most patient, kind, and loving book boyfriend I’ve ever read. His unwavering support and love for her is beautiful. Tabitha’s story is much more heart breaking. She is an orphan, bouncing through a troubled foster care system. She longs for a connection with someone–love and understanding. Unfortunately, she grasps at the first opportunity and it turns out to be a disaster. Running from her mistakes, Tabitha is desperately trying to find her way in the world. She stumbles into a relationship that is both attractive and ruinous. She is so vulnerable, only wanting to be loved. Never knowing the love and relationship of a family, she wants it for herself. Trudy does a fantastic job of telling Tabitha’s story. It feels 100% authentic, from every tormented scene to every sliver of hope Tabitha feels. I wanted her to guard her heart as she stumbles into certain relationships. But I also wanted her to have love so much, I rooted for her even when I knew there was no hope. And if you know anything about my reading habits, you know I’m a huge rock star lover. Alex Treadway’s relationship with Tabitha is something I want so bad! I’m honestly willing to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay off Trudy to make their relationship work. Please Trudy, please!!! I’m begging you! hahahaha With that said, Tabitha’s character has worked herself into my heart and she will stay with me for a long time. My absolute favorite part of Dear Emily is the love notes to unborn baby Emily. Even through the turmoil and drama of this situation, both Carly and Tabitha write these beautiful letters to her. They love her so much and know she is a treasured gift. Trudy’s writing hits you right in the heart as these women pour their hearts out to her. I think I cried after reading most of these letters. It shows that Trudy knows what this whole process is about and those words feed straight to your heart. Here is an example of what this baby girls means to Carly: Dear Emily, How do I start off a letter to a child I have yet to meet? A child that has always been in our hearts? A child that is meant for our family? Your Daddy and I cannot wait for the moment we are able to hold you in our arms for the first time. To lay our eyes on your perfect face, eyes, toes. To breathe in the essence of a new baby, swirling scents of powder and linen. We cannot wait to feel your beating heart against our chests and to listen to your slow and steady breaths. To hear your soft baby noises. To soothe your crying. We have always dreamed of you, Emily. We’ve dreamed that someday our family would be blessed with a child. We are so close. Our new family is within reach. We are here hoping, waiting, praying. Love and kisses, Momma Yes, re-reading this turning me into a crying mess! I absolutely loved Dear Emily. Trudy Stiles debut novel impresses the heck out of me. She took what could have been a straight forward dark, tragic plot and turned it into a beautiful story about coming to terms with adversity. Trudy’s characters are deep, complicated, and real! These women could be your best friends, aunts, or mothers. They are rooted in real life and you can’t help but to invest in them as you read. Trudy’s writing is graceful, pulling you into the story immediately. This story does end with a slight cliffhanger, but nothing too drastic. You will want to continue this journey with Carly and Tabitha. Their story isn’t over and I cannot wait to find out where their story goes next. I give Dear Emily by Trudy Stiles 5 out of 5 stars! Can you say a million stars for this debut book by Trudy Stiles. I have to say once again thank you so much Brandee's Book Endings for hosting these amazing book tours for books I would never have read or heard about if it were not for her. To say that this is an amazing story is just so not true. This is a story about love, loss, pain and redemption. This is a story about two broken women who need healing and may just get that healing from one another. This is a story about damaged women coming to terms with the damage that surrounds them everyday. can you imagine wanting something so bad and finding out you can't because of things from your past. Can you imagine being in a situation where you need a way out and the only way out is to give up the one thing you want but know you can't handle or take care of? Well this is the story about Carly and Tabitha two women who want something and need it and just may be able to help each other out. Both women are broken and torn inside and out but they continue to hold their head up high and continue living despite what they are going through and despite what they feel. For Carly it is wanting something so bad she feels like she would die without it. But she never gives up the hope that one day she will have her hearts desire and that one day will be soon. For Tabitha she will have to make a life altering decision and decide whether or not she can make the decision and stick by it. Yes she knows it is the right thing to do but it doesn't make it any easier on her. This story is told from a two person POV and past and present and let me tell you I laughed and I cried and I yelled at my kindle like a loony woman because the feelings and the emotions are so raw, rough, and real that it brings out everything in you. Trudy you have done a superb job on your debut and I need book two like ASAP!
