The twin girls were dead. This was a fact. The bodies were placed in a grotesque fashion with their arms and legs intertwined in an embrace held together with hanger wire. They faced each other, their heads held back by their long, dark brown hair twisted around the wire that secured their feet, mouths opened wide in a scream; a scream that was never heard

"Death Bonds" gives you love, pain, sacrifice and compassion. How can horror embody those things? Well, it can. McKinney managed to come up with a story where he mixes lovely images with gore. The narrative of this story pretty much appeals to the senses via the descriptions; that is, McKinney depicts scenes that bring musical essence and rhythm to the story, words that will be stuck in your mind for awhile, sounds that hunt you like they hunt the characters. That is one of the greatest features of this writer who is able to take you to a comfortable place then take you back to horror in two words. Are you ready to decide if a sacrifice is worth the lost ones? If evil can get to be good? If living is worth dying? If the past is still worth the present madness? Deal with it dear reader; horror and love can be one.

I really enjoyed this short story. There was a lot going on in just a few pages, it will make your hair stand on end.

Bent halos... what a great description for a marriage with problems! Lindas "affair" was so truthful it hurt. then the pleasantries stop! a full on ghost story with a stomach churning ending. Jerry yet again manages to wrap you up in a story which throws you from happy families to complete horror in a turn of a page. descriptive to the point of smelling the characters, you come away from the book with a distinct chill and sense of yuck! awesome!

If the opening lines of this short story doesn't give you the creeps, something is wrong. Just visualizing, "remnants of bodily fluids gelling beneath them as the carpet soaked up the moisture, the pungent, sickening sweet smell of death..". Fantastic choice of words make this story worth reading. As the story unfolds, you are introduced to a young couple trying to get a fresh start in life. They start on an adventure which ends with a house with a history. Thinking his uncle is a generous man setting them up in his house, the eager couple is getting more than what they have bargained for in the long run. The author jumps right in and sets the stage for this creepy story from the beginning which makes the reader think twice about getting the facts about "a good deal". After reading this quick, life-changing read, perhaps instead of just getting "car facts" we should start getting "house facts" too. I love the line "A gust of warm air billowed out of the house as if it were exhaling." Great choice of words!

Buying a house isn't always a dream come true. Sometimes it's a nightmare. This horror tale could make you think twice about owning a home, when most houses come with a history. Jerry McKinney delivers some scares in "Death Bonds", and will make you question the people around you. How many can be trusted? But then, sometimes loyalty isn't about being friendly or nice . . .
