I have read this book at least four times over the years and will be reading it again, I am sure. Its old school in the fact that it builds on frendships and dedication to helping others. At the end of our days can we look back and feel that we have truly made a difference? It helps us think of what is truly important in life. New Mexico is a wonderfull place and if you have ever been there then this book will feel like home.

Beautifully written, steeped in the history of New Mexico and the dramas between pueblo native peoples and Christian efforts to convert them. Characters are well developed and feel for New Mexico .I am guessing she spent time in NM visitng with Mabel Dodge Luhan and her literary Circle in Taos.
