Overview

Dr. Weiss's book, "Death Is Not An Option," is the heartwarming story of a devoted father's intense emotional and legal struggle in the aftermath of a tragic accident including the fight for his son's life, treatment, and extended care. The book details a unique perspective of a father who is also a physician, and is (astonishingly) forced to fight fellow physicians from his son's ICU bed as well as in court to save his son's life. The court case made legal history as it was the first time a hospital was forced to provide care, rather than simply "pulling the plug," as the treating physicians demanded. This book also takes an in-depth look at the ethical issues his situation raised, and how they apply to the medical profession as a whole today. The problems Dr. Weiss addresses speak universally about a flawed system that is in immediate need of repair.

Dr. Weiss' son, Justin, is now an intelligent and delightful young man attending the sixth grade. This statement can be made only because of Dr. Weiss's love, persistence, and dedication to his child's well-being and quality of life. His story is an emotional testament to the power of a family's love and determination to see their child live, recover, and thrive in the face of extraordinary odds.

    Highly Recommend

The story of Justin Weiss is heart breaking, and the commitment the Weiss’s have made to his recovery is beyond commendable. Additionally, the insight into working with insurance agencies is excellent. As so many of us with major medical issues know, dealing with insurance companies can be overwhelming and financially devastating.

I have been Dr. Weiss’s patient for 16 years. I trust, respect, and admire him; he is a tribute to the medical profession. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
