Death: An Introduction to Medical-Ethical Dilemmas

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 6-9-Altman addresses a variety of topics, including the actual physiology of dying, the ethics and legal issues involved in prolonging life, euthanasia, rituals surrounding death, and how various cultures perceive an afterlife. Scattered black-and-white illustrations, a Webliography, and a useful glossary round out the presentation. Daniel Jussim's Medical Ethics (Messner, 1990; o.p.) and Elaine Landau's The Right to Die (Watts, 1993) focus specifically on the ethical dilemmas, but students might find this broad overview of the subject useful since it touches on many topics they might be uncomfortable discussing. A solidly written and well-documented addition.-Linda W. Tilden, Cherry Hill Public Library, NJ Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
