    Another winner!

Such a great book - as usual written with flair and style. Lacey and Donovon are the "it" couple in mysteries.

    cute

I am just now stepping into the Crimes of Fashion series with DEATH ON HEELS (which is book 8) and I absolutely loved this book. Lacey is back in her old town; Sagebrush, Colorado to solve a crime. This may not appear to be a very big deal since Lacey has solved many crimes using her fashion knowhow, but to Lacey it is everything. Lacey must face the past to save her ex- boyfriend, Cole, from going to jail for murders Lacey knows he did not commit.

Lacey decides as a news reporter and as Cole's ex, she needs to get to the bottom of what is going on. Lacey and her crazy cast of characters get into a lot of shenanigans throughout this delightful whodunit. There is action, suspense, a touch of romance and a lot of great dialogue. Lacey's "Fashion Bites" are a cute and humorous addition that I very much enjoyed. I feel like I would be doing myself a disservice if I did not start at the beginning of this series and see where Lacey came from. I recommend this book and rate it 4 stars.

    Delightful Whodunit

She’s back! Lacey is back in Sagebrush, Colorado and the moment she arrives the fun begins on this wild adventure. Believing that an old boyfriend is innocent, Lacey goes to talk with him and soon after, they are both of the run, with Cole having kidnapped Lacey. Finding a clue while on the run, Lacey follows her fashion sense to unclothe a killer. I had such a great time reading this lighthearted whodunit. This was non-stop action at full-speed and it never let up from start to finish. This well-styled mystery entertained me with great dialogue, a sense of being there with Lacey and a page-turning pursuit of clues to keep me guessing. I love the people that are a part of Lacey’s world from her best friends, to her coworkers, to her boyfriend and to her lovable family. These factors shape this delightfully wonderful series that has become a must read. The added bonus of “Fashion Bites” throughout the book is a nice perk that I enjoy. I look forward to more exciting adventures with Lacey and her friends.

A special treat for long-term Lacey Smithsonian fans

DEATH ON HEELS, the eighth volume in Ellen Byerrum's excellent Crime of Fashion series, takes a look at heroine Lacey Smithsonian's backstory, truly a special treat for long-term fans.

It's also an excellent starting-off point if you haven't yet read all the books in the series.

For those of us who've been following Ellen Byerrum's Crime of Fashion series from the beginning, this look at fashion detective Lacey Smithsonian's reportorial origins in Sagebrush, Colorado, is more than a welcome addition to the series. Not only is DEATH ON HEELS a first-rate mystery, it's a look back at the details of Lacey's pre-fashion reporter/crime solver life that have only been hinted at so far.

This time, the featured regulars include Lacey's mom Rose and sister Cherise, Mac and Tony from the Eye Street Observer, and of course, the devilishly handsome Vic Donovan. Sadly, there are no recipes from Felicity.

And the Fashion Bites have, well, more of a bite for this reader than usual. Maybe because I'm a guy, and can actually follow a Fashion Bite about a pair of boots (as opposed to hemline and brassiere advice), these have been the most helpful Fashion Bites so far. Go Lacey!

We're drawn right into the DEATH ON HEELS story when Lacey discovers her ex-lover in Sagebrush, Cole Tucker, is arrested and arraigned for being a triple-murder serial killer. She knows he couldn't possibly guilty, and heads out for Colorado to help prove his innocence. Naturally, Vic can't sit still and just watch Lacey disappear into one of his old murder cases from when he was police chief in Sagebrush, so he accompanies her back to their old stomping grounds.

I'm not going to give away any more of the plot (NON-SPOILER ALERT). Suffice it to say, if you're a charter member of the Crime of Fashion series, DEATH ON HEELS is a book to live for. And if you're a new reader, there's no better place to jump in.
