In an unsettling but lucid critique, The Debt Boomerang shows that we in the North must also pay the price of World Bank and IMF policies that have accelerated deforestation, encouraged mass migrations, fuelled an expanding drug trade and heightened global instability and conflict.

'The Debt Boomerang,' by Susan George is an amazing, captivating, and enlightening book. Having been introduced to the book during a college 'social problems class' I grabbed it and read it eagerly. This is a book that all American citizens should read in order to become familiar with an important issue that they won't hear discussed in the media or politically. Third world debt is both tragic and dangerous--and 'we' are in some ways as guilty as anyone for promoting it. Environmental, drug, immigrant, tax burdens, higher un-employment and terrorism are all deligently illustrated as linked to third world debt. Susan George uncovers the secrets that the World Bank and International Monetary Fund don't want you to know, and she does it in a thorough and responsible manner.
