All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
The mother of all solo instrumental albums, and with good reason. Mixing traditional carols with Pachelbel's Canon and a few originals, Winston produces a solo piano album of unparalleled -- and undeniable -- beauty. How can music be simultaneously stirring and soothing, relaxed yet exalted? Millions have found the answer here, and an industry has spent more than a decade trying to duplicate it.

The 20th Anniversary Edition features 24-bit remastering and 15 minutes of new music, the bonus tracks "A Christmas Song" and "Sleep Baby Mine." The enhanced CD-Rom portion of the disc features sheet music to...

    amazing CD

I bought this in album/vinyl form 20+ years ago and loved it then. Seeing it on CD I had to order it. Now that I'm older and have mellowed even more, it completely blows me away.

Like Being Reunited With an Old Friend

Years ago, when I was in college and going through a rough time, a friend gave me a tape of "December." It was lost in one of my several relocations and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I kept looking for it in stores and mentioning it on my Christmas wish lists and I'd end up with other George Winston CDs. Good ones, all. But just not THE George Winston music I missed so much. A couple of weeks ago my daughter (who's away at college) mentioned wanting this particular CD, so I decided I'd look for a copy for her before Christmas. I spent some time in my local Barnes & Noble the other day with a very helpful B&N employee who helped me to search and search (based on the name of a song. I'd forgotten the title of the entire work and kept thinking it was "Thanksgiving"). Yes, we found it! But I couldn't resist, and once I got home I practically ripped off the plastic (yes, I admit it), and I'm keeping this one for myself. So now I'm online to buy another copy for my daughter and one for a friend. Listening to all the amazing songs on "December" again brings back memories and I recall how much these songs soothed me and got me through some difficult times. This is music to drink hot cocoa or coffee to, music to write to, music to lean back in your favorite chair to. It's music to cry to (and I mean that in the most positive sense). "Minstrels" (the third part of "Night") is so beautiful it brings me to tears every single time I hear it.

    Wonderful music for all occasions

George Winston's jazzy, yet *most* soothing interpretations of popular holiday music make this a MUST OWN for your cd collection. The music is appropriate for both social and solitary times. My favorite is "Joy" - the syncopated rhythms make an old favorite new again!

    The Best!

Of all the CD's I have ever bought, this is by far the best, and the one I would want to take with me to the secluded beach in the sky with all the romantic angels by my side!

    One of my all-time favorites!

I listen to this CD all year round and enjoy the music very much! I find it very relaxing. This was my first CD by George Winston and, I think, his best.

Quite possibly the very definition of music

I have never experience classical music to the point of revelation-- if you haven't, this one is for you. It's so beautiful; to me, Christmas isn't complete without it. I'm a writer and these wonderful sounds inspire my finest works. Two thumbs way, WAY up for the most artistic music I will ever experience.

A "must have" for your music collection

December is the first of many George Winston titles that I have collected over the years. Although this CD does include some holiday tunes, it can be enjoyed year round. Amazing lyrical piano tunes will lull you into a state of total relaxation. I play it for my elementary students while they work and they love it as much as I do!

Not Just For the Holidays or Winter

This is the first cd I have purchased by George Winston. I have been playing it for my two children when they go to sleep at night and naptime. I have grown to love his music. It is so tranquil, it lifts you up and carries you to a beautiful place. I can play this music year-round, even though there are a few Christmas tunes on the cd. It sweeps me away into dreamland. I highly recommend Winter, by George Winston.
