A smart, entertaining, and eye-opening look at the science of love, publishing for Valentine's Day

Relationships should be so simple. You meet someone. You fall in love. You live happily every after. This "romantic story line" has shaped our thinking about relationships for centuries. But the fairy tale is deeply flawed, and researchers today are making shocking discoveries about how and why we choose the people we love.

Drawing from the latest studies in economics, brain science, game theory, evolutionary psychology, and other fields, Decoding Love takes on a topic we all think we understand-how we fall in love-and illustrates that most of our assumptions are wrong. Along the way, Andrew Trees offers surprising new insights into the nature of attraction and desire, as well as an intimate look at the strange intersection of romance and the modern world of dating.

This is the second book I recently checked out from the local library and then bought a few for my family. I'm making it "Highly Recommended" reading to my two young-adult sons and their steady girlfriends, and my wife. The other book I bought and gave them to read is What Men Say, What Women Hear, by a female psychologist. Decoding Love is by a male researcher who has tracked down lots of compelling scientific/data evidence for why men & women typically behave the way we do toward members of the opposite sex. Neither book, of course gives the entire story on how we become friends and lovers, but together they are powerful information that can encourage your lovelife. It's pretty funny, too, in places, so that's another reason why I so enjoyed and appreciated both books.

I read this through just after a recent divorce a couple years back, and then read parts of it again over the last year. Lots of facts in here that break down the whole mystery of attraction to the opposite sex, love, falling in love and all the warm and fuzzy stuff into a science. Hard to imagine, but when you apply science to the whole love arena, I believe you remove much of the mystery and up your chances of finding and keeping the right mate, in fact it's worked for me...
