All Music Guide - William Ruhlmann
Ray Lynch's synthesizer playing sometimes approximates keyboard instruments and sometimes sounds like individually plucked strings on electrified string instruments, but always has a deeply textured melodic structure and a buoyant rhythmic underpinning. Isolated notes in series and patterns make a pointillistic mosaic of sound that alternately soothes and stimulates. No wonder this is one of the best-selling new-age albums of all time.

My daughter gave me a CD of Deep breakfast when it first came out. I have worn it out.

This is not music to dance with. It is music to watch a setting sun with. It is always placed in the New Age section in music stores, which I think is a mistake. I see this as electronic music that is soulfully soothing and inspiring.

Ray Lynch brings the sounds of whales into the music of his electronic instrumentations and creates a very thought provoking sound that slows down the pulse of any listner. I found his work Deep Breakfast especially soothing to listen to while watching the sun set across the marshes of lower South Carolina.
All music and no words allows a person's own thoughts to develop without the interferences of someone elses words leading them in an unknow direction. I hope someone else out there will look for and listen to this man's music. I know nothing of his spiritual thoughts or philosophy.

    after all these years...

I purchased this CD back in the 80's and it is still one of my favorites! I became a massage therapist 7 years ago, and people really love this music. Many folks bought the CD for themselves after a session. Lovely tunes. ~Arlette

    Audible Stimulation for the Mind.....

I have been listening to Ray for YEARS, and every time I listen, I hear something in the music that I haven't heard before. I love to listen to his music with the biggest and best headphones I can find... From there, enjoy the ''layers'' and ''textures'' that he creates in his music... Melody on top of melody... Rhythmn on top of rhythmn... See if you can single out one melodic line, or particular ''instrument'' he may be using and follow it for a bit.. It becomes quite a challenge at times with everything else that is going on... I agree with the others in that it is music that will make you feel great about whatever it is you may be doing or feeling at the time. I've even had old friends call me, and ask me who the person was that wrote the ''funky'' music that I listened to in college because the songs had stuck in their head for 10 years! His music means so much to me, and I know that I'd be a different person without it!! Enjoy!

    I love it

I've had this album for years. It never fails to make me feel good. Whether I need something soft to sleep to, or something to lift my spirits, ''Deep Breakfast'' is the best.
